Informazioni su di meWho am I? I am a librarian (1 of 6 in my greater family group) Specifically, I was a government documents librarian and have been one for over 40 years at Oklahoma State University where I was the department head of a very large collection. I retired in July 2014 and then began working part time at the library on a digitization project on maps of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory. You can see the maps by going to Google and searching Oklahoma Digital Maps Collection. My wife was the department head of the Science and Engineering Division at the same library until her retirement in Sept. 2011. We have two sons who are out of college. Both married. Interests include: working with the Boy Scouts (my sons are both Eagle Scouts), stamp collecting, cooking, reading and hiking. My handle is athiker on LibraryThing and so is the name on my car tag. Hiking the Appalachian Trail has been a goal for a long time. My trail name is Low Clearance. I began hiking the AT in May 1999 and finished it in August 2010 as a section hiker. A broken leg in 2004 on the first day of the last 700 mile section slowed me down. Maybe being too careful now while hiking and getting older are other factors in the time it has taken me to finish. My sons have hiked a large part with me when they are available and my wife has been the no. 1 Trail Angel by giving support to our efforts. Support was provided by others that sent food packages and cards of encouragement. Many cards were waiting at the Maine Post Office the day I completed the trail. In particular was a pile of cards that were sent in payment for not sending them in past years. I was able to complete the trail on August 3, 2010, the day before I turned 60. This is probably enough to write and if you have questions you can email me through this site or my normal email.
La mia bibliotecaI was not sure how many books were in my collection until I started adding them to LibraryThing. My subject areas are varied. Once completed, my holdings will show a large collection of military history with the American Civil War and World War II being the largest. Other areas of interest are the Appalachian Trail, World War I, cooking (especially Dutch Oven, pies and tarts), Scouting, outdoors, The Christmas Carol and Scrooge, Eric Sloane books, etc. By reviewing my tags, one will see what I like. I am always interested in seeing that some of the books I have are also picked by others. It is especially interesting to add books and see how few have the same book I own. I have added in my wife's collection of sewing and quilting books and crosstitch pamphlets. In some areas, she now outnumbers me in book holdings.
