I read a lot of non-fiction - biographies, travel books, French History, Russian History, North African History, European History etc. I have a special fondness for Gothic literature - by which I include the Brontes, Byron, Anne Radcliffe etc - and the Romantic poets. I have a collection of French existential novels - Camus, Satre, de Beauvoir etc - and also lots of 20th Century fiction, eg Graham Greene, George Orwell, Ernest Hemmingway, Paul Bowles, Anais Nin etc. I also regularly peruse the 3 for 2s at Waterstones to try the latest fiction paperbacks. Some have been very disappointing, but have found some real gems. I really don't like 'Chick Lit' or thrillers, but I like some classic science fiction books eg "I am Legend" and old time horror like Edgar Allen Poe. Also, European Crime novels like Fred Vargas, Henning Mankell, Arnaldur Indridason, Jean-Francois Parot
