I should like to be sure that I had (1), of meaning (1), of the material and immaterial world; every paragraph a gem in style; beautiful (1), gravelly (1), and staring at the open-eyed indifference of it all; nature (1), man; “There in the dusty light from the one small window on shelves of roughsawed pine stood a collection of fruitjars and bottles with ground glass stoppers and old apothecary jars all bearing antique octagon labels edged in red upon which in Echols’ (1), ’ I said (1)
