Informazioni su di meMy husband and I live 1912 house in Portland with lots of books, a jazz vinyl collection, and two tabby cats named Billie and Ella (the Jazz Cats).

I practice law at my own firm, Dumas & Vaughn, mostly representing the victims of childhood sexual abuse. I spend the rest of my time playing with my Rose City Reader book blog, exploring, reading books, puttering with the house, and neglecting my garden.

I am a compulsive "list" reader. I caught the bug with the the Modern Library's Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century, which I finished in 2008. I started my book blog to keep track of the lists I work on, including prize winners like the Booker and the Pulitzer, and "must reads" like Erica Jong's Best 100 Novels by Women. I burn up valuable reading time playing with my lists. I know this.

La mia bibliotecaMy LT library includes all the books I live with and some that I finished reading but are NIL anymore. I keep them on the list here so I don't buy or read them again. It does not include wishlist books.

Any book tagged "James's" belongs to my husband and it is unlikely that I have read it or ever will -- unless it is also tagged "TBR" in which case I intend to get to it someday.

I am loosey goosey with my star ratings. Stars should be taken with a grain of salt. Generally, 5 stars means it is an all-time favorite; 4 stars means I liked it and would recommend it; 3 stars means I enjoyed it but probably wouldn't recommend it; 2 stars means I didn't like it; and 1 star means I thought it was really bad. I give 3 1/2 stars to many books. For me, that means I would recommend it to certain readers, compared to a 4 star rating that means I would recommend it to anyone.
