I've never read a book in my life - like, from cover to cover...I can see ok (with glasses) but I have a particularly difficult time picking up the sentence as I move from the end of one line to the beginning of the next (I've tried bookmarks, etc)...my eyes just take too long to refocus after every line, it makes reading a tedious chore.

And so, I don't so much read books as use them - I don't deal with fiction at all, and use non-fiction to find out what I need to know. In the end, I have many books I'm sure I've read just, as I say, not cover to cover.

Although I have some books on American Blues music, history, comic books, cookbooks, etc - my library is a Christian study library. I have various reference works (on the original languages of Scripture, customs, history, etc), commentaries, theology, etc. I prefer Puritan writers, and some Reformers...there's not too many contemporary authors I read (or even know about).

I have several very old (1780, 1817, etc) works, including the first American edition of Matthew Henry's Commentary. I don't have a huge collection, but everything I have is very good. My favorite writer is John Newton...his letters (The Letters Of John Newton, published by Banner Of Truth Trust) is the best reading I've done outside of Scripture.

I dropped out of high school and married my sweetheart...we've been together over 35 years, have 6 kids and 8 grandchildren with two kids (boy and girl twins) still at home.
