James Murray (1713-1781), merchant. Born in London, he emigrated to North Carolina in 1735; Murray moved to Boston in 1765 and, as a loyalist, was evacuated to Nova Scotia with the British troops in March, 1776.

His wife Mary was a merchant in her own right, as head of Mary Murray and Co.

James Murray's letterbooks (1732-1769) and account books (1732-1748; 1766-1781), along with an invoice book from Mary Murray and Co. (1771-1775) comprise the James Murray Papers at the Massachusetts Historical Society.
