Our "Library of the Built Environment" focuses on architecture & urban design, local history, conservation technique & DIY, historic interiors & period furnishings, and much more. In addition to hundreds of books, it contains dozens of magazine titles, a 120-year run of Ithaca City Directories, thousands of photographs and slides, surveys of historic resources throughout Tompkins County, scrapbooks, maps, and ephemera. These resources are utilized by homeowners, students, researchers, and our own staff.

Established in 1966 as a community response to threats to downtown Ithaca landmarks, HI is the non-profit voice for preservation in Tompkins County and the Finger Lakes Region.
