Compton Heights Christian Church's library reflects its part in God's mission to be the church through our dedication to equipping God's people with thoughtful and timely theological resources for Christians. We are firmly dedicated to the idea that a strong faith has the ability to withstand the intense questions that come with life and Christian discipleship.
Informazione su di me
From https://comptonheights.wordpress.com/who-we-are/:

Compton Heights Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in 1894, and has served this neighborhood since that time. Our location on South Grand is our third location, but we have always been within a few blocks in this area of the city.

Our faith in Jesus Christ has opened us to the Spirit of God who calls us to “be Church” through the changing times and changing needs of the community. Members of this congregation share a passion for God’s work in the city! We invite you to join in this compassionate life and ministry.

We are a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada, a denomination of almost 600,000 members. There are Disciples in countries throughout the world. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began in the early 1800’s on the American frontier in an effort to bring together Christians of differing backgrounds as one people united in Christ. Founders Barton Stone, Thomas Campbell and Alexander Campbell had come to believe that creeds should not be used as tests of faith and fellowship.

We continue this strong tradition of embracing and valuing differing perspectives, interpretations, and experiences of faith.

We are united in our faith that God’s reconciling, life-giving love is embodied in Jesus the Christ whom we proclaim Lord and Savior. Our faith is ever contemporary as we seek to bring God’s people together, to overcome the barriers that separate us from God and each other. Our purpose is to embody God’s life-transforming love, hand in hand with people in our community. We are committed and working to be a church that brings together Christians of different races, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions, abilities, and economic experiences so that we may live in God’s love and serve God’s people together.

Our intentional welcome and involvement of God’s people of so many backgrounds, identities, and expressions is not simply so that we will “be diverse.” It is because we experience the nature of God more fully as we come to know, understand, and love the breadth and depth of God’s people. YOU are an expression of Christ’s love in our midst. Gathered together we are able to celebrate God’s love and to reach out in wholeness.

We exist to love God and God’s people, to lead people in relationship with Jesus Christ, to be Christ’s disciples by learning about his life and ministry, and to participate in God’s mission to liberate people from sin and sinful structures.
