Two Sisters. One Single Event. A Family Changed Forever.
At the turn of the twentieth century, sisters Emmy and Callie Bullock are living a privileged life as the only daughters of a wealthy Alabama cotton farmer when their well-ordered household gets turned upside down by the arrival of Lily McGee. Arrestingly beautiful, Lily quickly—and innocently—draws the wrong kind of attention. Meanwhile, Callie meets a man who offers her the freedom to abandon social constraints and discover her truest self.
After Lily has a baby, Callie witnesses something she was never meant to see—or did she? Her memory is a haze, just an image in her mind of Emmy standing on a darkened riverbank and cradling Lily's missing baby girl. Only when the sisters are separated does the truth slowly come to light through their letters—including a revelation that will shape the rest of Callie's life.
Bestselling author Valerie Fraser Luesse weaves a complex and suspenseful tale dripping with intrigue, romance, and Southern charm.

From John Cribb, author of the acclaimed novel Old Abe, comes a new work of historical fiction that brings Abraham Lincoln to life as never before.
The Rail Splitter tells the story of Abraham Lincoln's remarkable journey from a log cabin to the threshold of the White House--a journey that makes him one of America's most beloved heroes. We walk beside him on every page of this spellbinding novel and come to know his hopes and struggles on his winding path to greatness.
The story begins with Lincoln's youth on the frontier, where he grows up with an ax in one hand and book in the other, determined to make something of himself. He sets off on one adventure after another, from rafting down the Mississippi River to marching in an Indian war. When he is twenty-six, the girl he hopes to marry dies of fever. He spends days wandering the countryside in grief. A few years later, he purchases a ring inscribed with the words "Love Is Eternal" and enters a tempestuous marriage with Mary Todd.
Lincoln literally wrestles his way to prominence on the Illinois prairies. He teaches himself the law and enters the rough and tumble world of frontier politics. With Mary's encouragement, he wins a term in the US Congress, but his political career falters. They are both devastated by the loss of a child. As arguments over slavery sweep the country, Lincoln finds something worth fighting for, and his debates with brash rival Stephen Douglas catapult him toward the White House.
Part coming-of-age story, part adventure story, part love story, and part rags-to-riches story, The Rail Splitter is the making of Abraham Lincoln. The story of the rawboned youth who goes from a log cabin to the White House is, in many ways, the great American story. The Rail Splitter reminds us that the country Lincoln loved is a place of wide-open dreams where extraordinary journeys unfold.

Romance and family secrets intertwine in Tuscany.
Erika Germoglio is a self-made woman who has it all--a successful career and a well-connected fiancé--then suddenly has even more. An Italian grandfather she has never met wills to her Casalvento, a house and a vineyard, and Livernano, a medieval village turned bed-and-breakfast, both in the Chianti region of Tuscany.
When Erika travels to Italy to settle the affairs of her inheritance, she meets Paolo, Casalvento's intelligent, compassionate, and strikingly handsome estate manager and wine maker. And she learns the inheritance comes with a catch—to keep or sell Casalvento and Livernano, she must live there and learn the business of the two estates for five months.
Should she uproot her New York life and embrace all Italy has to offer? And if she chooses Italy, which man will be by her side? Erika struggles with that question while fulfilling the stipulations of the will and trying to make sense of a series of letters left for her by her late grandfather, Craig's unpredictable attitude when she calls home, and her own feelings whenever she sees Paolo.

A beautifully told, often humorous, unusual and also universal love story. A memoir about learning to live with another human being and about how every relationship is a mystery—and a miracle.
When they first met, John, a dashing European, a Latvian refugee, a physics PhD, is hoping to settle down. Michaele, a fast-talking American college student, a secular Jew, is hungry for an independent life as a writer and historian. When they meet again some years later, Michaele is ready. Or so she thinks. And anyway, opposites attract, right? This might be a simple story of two people, characters both, who meet, fall in love, and get married. But of course, no marriage is simple. The life Michaele and John build together intermingles sweetness—their love of good food, entertaining, and family—and complications—their ethnic and religious differences, the trauma John endured during WWII and its aftermath, Michaele's thwarted ambitions, and maybe even John's preoccupation with rye bread! As he opens a successful rye bread bakery, Michaele embarks on a European journey to understand where John grew up, excavating poignant stories of war, privation and resilience. She begins to reevaluate her own assumptions and prejudices, for the first time appreciating how rye bread represents everything about John's homeland that he loved and lost. Eventually Michaele comes to love rye bread, too.
With fierce honesty, Michaele Weissman crafts a beautiful memoir, one that resonates long after the last page: How do the stories we live and the stories we inherit play out in our marriages? How do couples in long-term relationships live together without wringing each other's necks? The Rye Bread Marriage will appeal to foodies—the ones who love rye bread and the ones who hate rye bread—and it will appeal to everyone who is bemused by the messiness of living with another person, and by what to cook them for dinner.

Secrets of the Moon reveals a Moon that is often different from the one we think we know. We typically underestimate its importance in our lives. Very few things are linked to such a wide and diverse net of concepts and beliefs. No matter what those beliefs are, the Moon plays a role in shoring up our reality.
Learning about the Moon is a chance to learn about ourselves and our world from an unbiased point of view, and that is Moon's biggest secret of all. The book is divided into sixty short sections, which are grouped into thirteen chapters and five parts. Each section tells a different story about the Moon and usually address one of two key questions: How did the Moon become so subtly influential in our lives and more importantly why is the Moon so essential to all life of Earth. Together, they form a collection of afterthoughts that will give us pause the next time we look up at the Moon. Perhaps we'll see it differently. Perhaps we'll see ourselves differently. Ultimately that is up to the reader.
Secrets of the Moon will only challenge those ideas that we are ready to face. Ultimately, the Moon you see is the one you choose to see, but if you are looking to ground a personal philosophy into something you can find nearly every night of the year, Secrets of the Moon might help.

"Kate Doyle's gorgeous, electric fiction upends expectations about how stories are told and what exactly needs telling. Lovers and rivals, siblings and friends, navigate the funny, strange, sometimes explosive, sometimes transcendently beautiful terrain of love and ambition. These are wise, intimate, essential stories." —Mary-Beth Hughes, author of The Ocean House
With this sharp and witty debut collection, author Kate Doyle captures precisely that time of life when so many young women are caught in between, pre-occupied by nostalgia for past relationships--with friends, roommates, siblings--while trying to move forward into an uncertain future. In "That Is Shocking," a college student relates a darkly funny story of romantic humiliation, one that skirts the parallel story of a friend she betrayed. In others, young women long for friends who have moved away, or moved on. In "Cinnamon Baseball Coyote" and other linked stories about siblings Helen, Evan, and Grace, their years of inside jokes and brutal tensions simmer over as the three spend a holiday season in an amusing whirl of rivalry and mutual attachment, and a generational gulf widens between them and their parents. Throughout, in stories both lyrical and haunting, young women search for ways to break free from the expectations of others and find a way to be in the world.
Written with crystalline prose and sly humor, the stories in I Meant It Once build to complete a profoundly recognizable portrait of early adulthood and the ways in which seemingly incidental moments can come to define the stories we tell ourselves. For fans of Elif Batuman, Ottessa Moshfegh, Patricia Lockwood, and Melissa Bank, these stories about being young and adrift in today's world go down easy and pack a big punch.

Disagreement is a visual narrative of an argument that devolves out of control, culminating in a shouting match where the only effort being made is to be the loudest. The polarization of opinions and lack of effort to compromise or reach common ground, inspired by recent political events across the globe, consumes those involved. They eventually escape the chaos through creativity and humanism, which ultimately leads to the path of understanding. This book artfully illustrates the toll of conflict and the magic that can occur when one takes a step back from the noise.

In a society where raging narcissism dominates the moral landscape, the virtue of humility is often dismissed as irrelevant. Not only is humility vanishing from contemporary culture, but we are also witnessing how destructive a lack of humility has become among our churches and ministry leaders. And yet, Richard Foster, the founder of Renovaré, insists that humility is central to the journey toward character formation and spiritual transformation. For this reason he decided to spend a year studying the virtue of humility.
Using the Lakota calendar as a framework, Foster provides us with a look into the insights he gathered from sources ranging from Native American culture to Julian of Norwich to Scripture to personal friends. By engaging with both the spiritual classics and Foster's own experiences, Learning Humility provides profound insight into what humility can look like in our current cultural climate.
Join Richard Foster on the journey toward a life of humility, which he says leads us into "freedom, joy, and holy hilarity."

Originally published in 1909, Beatrice the Sixteenth: Being the Personal Narrative of Mary Hatherley, M.B., Explorer and Geographer is the debut feminist science fiction novel by Irene Clyde.
Mary Harthereley is lost. After being struck by a camel’s hoof, Mary finds herself thrown into an alternate plane of existence some five hundred years in the past. Discovered by people of the local province, she is escorted into the Kingdom of Armeria ruled by Queen Beatrice the Sixteenth. Welcomed by the inhabitants, Mary is introduced to a rather progressive society wherein there is no gender, divorce or carnivores and is taken in by their concept of “conjux,”—lifetime partnerships based on romantic love and companionship rather than sex. Finding herself growing fond of the kingdom, Mary uncovers deception and plot as a war threatens to upend all that the Armerias hold dear.
Professionally typeset with a beautifully designed cover, this edition of Beatrice the Sixteenth is a classic of feminist science fiction literature, reimagined for modern readers.

People today encounter a dizzying array of religious options. We might consider mystical faiths like Buddhism and Hinduism, historical religions like Islam and Mormonism, or more nebulous modern expressions of being spiritual but not religious or religious but not spiritual. How do we know what is true? Is one faith just as good as another?
Trial lawyer Mark Lanier presents the claims made by the world's great religions, discusses their histories, and cross-examines their witnesses (their scriptures and traditions) to determine whether their claims are worthy of belief. With his keen legal mind and methodical style, he provides a careful comparative study, highlighting key truths he finds in each religion even as he offers critiques. Treating each perspective on its own terms and weighing the worldviews for consistency and livability, Lanier assesses evidence for and against belief systems with criteria for what constitutes sufficient proof.
Believers and unbelievers alike will find here perceptive insights into how we can make sense of competing religious claims and what difference it makes for our own lives.

Two exquisite novellas on memory, perception, and shifting intimacies
In “The Impostor,” a man travels with his wife through Italy and recalls a family legend about an uncle who was swallowed by Mt. Vesuvius. Preoccupied by this mysterious event, he grapples with the fallibility of memory and the enigma of time. In “Blue Butterflies of the Amazon,” a matriarch, rendered mute and paralyzed by a stroke, defenselessly observes the shifting dynamics between her only son, his wife, and her husband while they play out their complex intimacies before her.
As the characters of The Impostor wander between worlds and states of mind, Edgard Telles Ribeiro elucidates their situations in surprisingly inventive ways that explore devastating questions of reality, consciousness, and loss.
“Two elegant novellas, each an atmospherically charged investigation of consciousness, familial ties, legacy, and language.” —Publishers Weekly
“These inventive novellas are like literary puzzles for the reader to tease out.” —Kirkus Reviews
“Comical and brooding, enchanting and disturbing, The Impostor triggers a unique free fall into the unnerving craters of the mind.” —Laura Restrepo, author of Delirium and The Divine Boys

Mangas County has a wolf problem. That's why Special Deputy Jessie Torres spends her days examining wolf-killed livestock and pets in the rugged backcountry of western New Mexico. Despite the heartbreak of every so often having to deal with the death of a valued ranch dog or a favorite rodeo horse, she enjoys her work. She's outdoors, by herself, doing a job that needs doing. But lately what Jessie is seeing doesn't make sense: too many kills, too much blood, and more wolves at the kills than are part of any local pack. Just what is going on?
Now the isolated county is being invaded for the long July 4th holiday weekend and Jessie's been pulled from her wilderness work to deal with human beings instead of critters. Thousands of born-again hippies are squatting in the National Forest for a Gathering, tourists and locals are pouring into the county seat of Largo Creek for the parade and other events, and the sheriff is telling his deputies to hush up about the suspicious and bloody death of someone Jessie knows all too well. Juggling all this plus the demands of her grandmother, an Apache curandera and the unofficial ruler of the area, will try Jessie's strength and ingenuity to the limit.
"I had all kinds of chores that I needed to do today, but then I received a copy of Lif Strand's Dark Green. I spent the rest of the $#$!@!! day reading it...but I got the best of the deal!" ~ Bill Gastner, former sheriff of Posadas County NM

It'll Be Irie will captivate young readers’ hearts with the story of a head-strong immigrant child's humorous attempt to embrace a new cultural environment. In addition, it also offers readers a figurative taste of the underrepresented culture of Jamaica.

"Serves up heaping portions of yearning, passion, alienation, and regret, and establishes Dana Shem-Ur as one of the rising stars of the new Israeli literature."—Joshua Cohen, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Netanyahus
A piercing novel about life abroad in a cultural setting not one's own: Reut is an Israeli translator living in Paris with a French husband and their child. She's made sacrifices for her family but now feels a simmering discontent and estrangement that erupts at a festive dinner party with affluent, intellectual friends. During the sumptuous meal, she navigates a tangle of cultural codes with which she's never been fully at ease. This is a novel about big life choices that examines a woman's attitudes toward belonging to a man, to a culture, to a language. Where I Am is an intimate, witty book portraying a profoundly human yearning to stop everything, to lay down one's head, and to feel—if only for a moment—at home.

A riveting, deeply personal memoir of more than twenty years of death-scene investigations by New York City death investigator Barbara Butcher.
Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner's Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous - she loved it.
Butcher (yes, that is her real name, and she has heard all the jokes) spent day in and day out investigating double homicides, gruesome suicides, and most heartbreaking of all, underage rape victims who had also been murdered. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides. In the opening chapter, she describes how just from sheer luck of having her arm in cast, she avoided a boobytrapped suicide. Later in her career, she describes working the nation's largest mass murder, the attack on 9/11, where she and her colleagues initially relied on family members' descriptions to help distinguish among the 21,900 body parts of the victims.
This is the fascinating and stunning real-life story of a woman who, in dealing with death every day, learned surprising lessons about life—and how some of those lessons saved her from becoming a statistic herself. Fans of Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell, and true crime won't be able to put it down.

"In these impressionistic, roaming poems, David Michael Belczyk journeys into memories and across cities and continents—Bayeux’s “soaring spires,” Rochester’s “shuttered clapboard houses,” Granada’s “aisles of palm through iron bars,” Puerto Rico’s “wind and rivulets [that] ran through the open doors”—as he searches for “a sacred place... hallowed by the ones that went before.” These are poignant songs of longing and desire that evoke the complexities of attraction to the real and imagined, the actual and the mythic, the love that compels the poet to meander for meaning “toward the end of all roads." —Orlando Ricardo Menes, The Gospel of Wildflowers and Weeds
"Travelers is Belczyk's serenade to places and to place; multiple journeys of body and of mind. These poems constitute a nuanced seeking after desire, and the sometimes perplexing results of that search." —Gerald Costanzo, Regular Haunts: New and Previous Poems
"The poetry of geography says that every place awaits the traveler. It's what the poet imagines each place to be as well as what it becomes when he goes there. Local or distant, it becomes personal in the poet's imagination. Take a trip with David Michael Belczyk in these poems, and you've seen the world." —Samuel Hazo, The Less Said, the Truer
"David Michael Belczyk's Travelers is an ambitious, conceptual collection that covers a lot of territory, both geographical and emotional. This series of love poems to places examines the important connections we make to specific locations, environments, and the influence those things have on our lives. A fascinating exploration." —Jim Daniels, Gun/Shy and The Luck of the Fall

Against a constellation of solar weather events and an evolving pandemic, Jeannine Hall Gailey’s Flare, Corona paints a self-portrait of the ways that we prevail and persevere through health adversities while facing an uncertain future.
Gailey juxtaposes eclipses and hurricanes with a body's many medical challenges, including neurological symptoms that turn out to be multiple sclerosis, highlighting the miraculous while melding the personal with the political to tell a story of a world and body in crisis. Alongside harbingers of apocalypse, foxes, cherry trees, and supervillains populate the page. Flare, Corona faces calamity head-on, illuminating the power of humor and hope to brave the ever-shifting landscapes of personal and ecological adversity.
Jeannine Hall Gailey's poems are incandescent and tender-hearted, gracefully insistent on teaching us how we can live in a beautiful and perilous world, the ways in which we can brilliantly and stubbornly survive.

Global inequality is growing. Financial markets disenfranchise women, the 99 percent, and the planet itself. But what if we found the source of power and turned it inside out? What if we made the tools of the system available to all?
When she launched the world's first stock exchange for social enterprises, Durreen Shahnaz started more than a new financial system; she sparked a movement. Defiant optimism—the stubborn belief that systems that enrich the few can be transformed for the good of the many—requires an indomitable spirit. In these pages, Shahnaz illuminates what investing in those excluded from networks of power and opportunity requires.
From growing up with constrained life chances, to working as the first Bangladeshi woman on Wall Street, to becoming a global leader in impact investing, Shahnaz takes us on a mesmerizing trek of innovation, compassion, and enterprise. We accompany her to villages in Bangladesh where she helps women entrepreneurs learn to proudly sign their names, and on visits to venture capitalists who walk past her to shake her male employees' hands. We go to a garment factory where women labor for low wages, and to a town in India where microfinance offers women enough capital to run grocery stores and tailor shops. Along the way, the birth of her two daughters only fuels her relentless pursuit of a world where girls are valued. Finally, armed with financial backers and a plan, Shahnaz crafts the world's first tradeable financial product geared toward investing in underserved women's livelihoods.
Changing how systems work—and who they work for—isn't for the faint of heart. But The Defiant Optimist offers strategies for placing women, the underserved, and the planet at the heart of systems. Together we can locate the levers of power and pull them defiantly in a new direction.

Conceived by Jamaica’s first Poet Laureate, Thomas MacDermot, The All Jamaican Library is where literary publishing in Jamaica found its footing. This indigenous imprint was designed to put forth work written by Jamaicans about Jamaica while being reasonably priced in order to remain accessible to the locals. Though it only ran for six years, MacDermot published two of his own novels, Becka’s Buckra Baby (1904) and One Brown Girl and ¼ (1909) comprising “The Story of Noel,” as well as E.A. Dodds’ Maroon Medicine (1905)—the first collection of stories by a Caribbean writer—and W.A. Campbell’s short story, Marguarite: A Story of the Earthquake (1907).
The first work from the series, Becka’s Buckra Baby, is a tragic story of race and class following the life of Noel Maud Bronvola. Wanting to honor her father after his death, Noel dedicates herself to helping others, eventually bringing a gift to a young child that has unexpected consequences. The second work, Maroon Medicine, is a collection of short stories that focus on the lighter sides of daily Jamaican life. Inspired by the spider-trickster spirit Anasi, these stories are a celebration of West African folklore. The third work, Marguerite: A Story of the Earthquake, is a short story following the tragic romance between George Hodlin and Marguerite. Nurturing Marguerite back to health and attempting to win her affections, the young lover’s lives and plans for the future are upended once an earthquake strikes Kingston. George now away at school and Marguerite the apple of Herr Otto Tiez’s eye, the pair try to decipher how love can last when held against the temptation of comfort and lasting security. The fourth and final work, One Brown Girl and ¼ is a spiritual successor to Becka’s Buckra Baby that focuses on Liberta Passley. Despite her beauty, wealth, education, and social standing, Liberta Passley is unable to feel satisfied. Feeling as though she must reject her African heritage, she makes a decision that unwittingly welcomes disaster into her life.
Professionally typeset with a beautifully designed cover, this exclusive edition of The All Jamaican Library is the foundation of Caribbean writing, reimagined for modern readers.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is the earliest work of literature discovered to date. Despite its age, the story is quite up to date. The epic provides drama with notable characters, offers a strong plot, and considers the universal themes of friendship, death, and the search for immortality. Centered on Gilgamesh, king of Uruk, and his friend, the beast-man Enkidu, the tale relates the courage, hopes, fears, and doubts displayed by these two men through their dynamic personalities. Both men are relatable characters struggling to make sense of the world and of themselves, just like all human beings. Several other characters who encounter Gilgamesh such as Siduri and Utnapishtim offer interesting insights about life and the ways of the world in which they live. Though written approximately 450 years before the book of Genesis, the epic includes a narrative of the great flood that covered the entire earth. Whether seeking an adventure story, learning about the thinking of the ancients, or wanting to glean eternal wisdom, this poetic version of The Epic of Gilgamesh with its illustrations will delight the reader.
The rhyme scheme for the poem is the heroic couplet; that is, rhyming pairs of lines in iambic pentameter. This scheme follows the form of the neoclassical tradition, particularly Alexander Pope with his Iliad and Odyssey. However, unlike Pope, Watson does not employ the closed couplet, opting rather for frequent enjambment. The original Gilgamesh is not very well-structured, and the sole use of the closed couplet would have proven too artificial. The freer, narrative style suits the epic well.

In this breathtaking memoir, acclaimed author Alex Wheatle details how reggae music became his salvation through a childhood marred by abuse, imprisonment, and police brutality
“In this inspiring, often harrowing narrative, the author chronicles how, shortly after he turned 3, he was abandoned by his parents and placed in the care of the government. That led to a childhood of physical and sexual abuse on top of the racism and police brutality he experienced growing up in Brixton, England, in the 1970s and ’80s... As dark as his early memories are, Wheatle describes his reggae memories with glimmers of hope and appreciation... A striking tribute to reggae’s ability to protect a fragile soul when seemingly everything else had failed him.” —Kirkus Reviews, starred review
Abandoned as a baby to the British foster care system, Alex Wheatle grew up without any knowledge of his Jamaican parentage or family history. Preoccupied with his own roots, Alex grew inexorably drawn to reggae music, which became his primary solace through years of physical and mental abuse in a children’s home.
Although riven by loneliness and depression, Alex found joy and empathy among his reggae heroes: Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Marcia Griffiths, the Mighty Diamonds, Sister Nancy, Gregory Isaacs, Barrington Levy, King Yellowman, and so many others. These were friends and mentors who understood the enormous challenges facing a young Black man, gave purpose to despair, provided a sense of belonging when Alex had no one, and who educated him in ways no school ever could. From the abuse he suffered in foster care, to the challenges he faced on the streets of South London as a young man and his eventual imprisonment for participating in the legendary 1981 Brixton uprising against racial injustice, reggae music always provided a lifeline to Alex.
Alex’s life story was portrayed in Oscar Award–winning director Steve McQueen’s 2020 Small Axe, and viewers will know that Alex is now one of the most lauded writers in Great Britain, deservedly honored with a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for services to literature. In Sufferah, he vividly tells his own story, putting the reader in his shoes through the many challenges of his younger years, answering the question: how on earth did he make it?
Alex Wheatle’s award-winning fiction—and this memoir—are a gift to us all, a call to never give up hope. His stories were inspired by a boy in the UK who knew nothing about himself but found a rich heritage, and through Sufferah we are reminded that words can be our sustenance, and music can be our heartbeat.

A bible salesman begins cashing the checks himself and wandering the country on the company's dime in an increasingly surreal travelogue.
"Drift captures the tedious terror-and terrifying tedium-of contemporary life like nothing I've seen. Craig Rodgers performs the neatest of tricks, sending European-style ennui (think Sartre and Camus) on a thrill ride through a uniquely American hell." —Jennifer Wortman, author of This. This. This. Is. Love. Love. Love.
"With Drift, Craig Rodgers cements himself as a writer of considerable talent and limitless creative ambition. Following the exploits of a self-described piece of human spam, the novel trawls the liminal spaces and empty corridors of the often crappy and occasionally edifying experience of being alive in America. Rodgers's prose is spare, comedic, and deployed with a craftsman's attention to detail. Paced perfectly, Drift is the literary page-turner of the year." —Kyle Seibel, author of Hey You Assholes
"Drift is a potent literary moonshine that distills the existential milieux of McCarthy and the post-modern dysphoria of Bachman." —Alan ten-Hoeve, author of Notes from a Wood-Paneled Basement
"Drift by Craig Rodgers reads in the author's signature style -the familiar charm of characters from another time somehow thrust into a world they don't belong to, an initially-pleasant vintage dancing toward something faintly macabre. In this case, it is Charlie, a Bible salesman who, in the slow process of losing himself, embarks on a darkly-tinged trip both literally and through his own consciousness. Bleak, twisting, and satisfying, Rodgers seamlessly curates the details of each moment, weaving them together into a knot you'll want to follow to the end." —Tiffany M Storrs, Editor in chief, Roi Fainèant Press

“A vile crime is being planned,” he said.
“And heaven knows, it may even have been executed.”
When an old schoolfriend whisks private detective Asbjørn Krag away by train to an isolated snow-covered manor house, his curiosity is aroused.
John Aakerholm, a wealthy landowner with peculiar tastes, refuses to disclose why he is utterly terrified. Every evening at midnight he retires to bed, locking himself within three different chambers - and access is strictly forbidden. When a shocking murder takes place, Krag must use his sharp wit and skills to uncover the killer before he strikes again….
A brilliantly ingenious story, Through Three Rooms amply displays Elvestad’s gift for storytelling and style. Available in English for the very first time, this book will delight fans of vintage crime fiction. This new translation features an introduction by Nils Nordberg, radio drama producer and Norwegian authority on crime fiction.
“A brisk, pacey and thoroughly entertaining page-turner by one of crime fiction’s unsung heroes…well worth rediscovering.” – Tom Mead, author of Death and the Conjuror
“An enjoyable example of the traditional murder mystery.”– Martin Edwards, novelist and author of The Life of Crime

Jo Murphy was just an ordinary New Age witch who had a knack for reading tarot before she was kidnapped and tortured by the Fenris, a pack of insane werewolves. Since she escaped that hell after calling on the goddess Hecate for help, Jo hasn’t been the same, emotionally or magically. It left her with PTSD nightmares, a boatload of paranoia, and access to new powers that she doesn’t understand, including the ability to walk through mirrors. With the Fenris gone—apparently by her hand—Jo started running and didn’t stop until another werewolf tracked her down.
When Ezekiel Booker answered the Council’s call to find and question Josephine Murphy, he thought it would be one last job before he settled down to become alpha of his own pack in St. Louis. However, Booker didn’t bank on how she would affect him when they came face-to-face—and then she disappeared. When he finally finds her again, she’s settled down and created a magical sanctuary and occult shop out of an old building in his territory. And it’s entirely warded against werewolves.
Booker doesn’t want to hurt Jo—far from it—but he does need to find out why the Fenris wolves have completely disappeared. He contacts her, determined to prove that she’s not in danger from him. Meanwhile, Jo wants to trust alpha wolf Booker, but she’s not the naïve young witch she once was. There’s something in him that calls to her, and all her senses are telling him he’s on her side; it doesn’t hurt that he’s hot as hell and seems attracted to her. Even so, old habits and suspicions die hard.
But then a necromancer attacks Jo, using the freshly killed body of her friend and protégé as a weapon, and their only clue is a mysterious rune necklace and an all-girl Goth band that isn’t quite what it seems. Now Jo has no choice but to join forces with Booker and his pack to find out who’s raising the dead in St. Louis … or become a corpse herself."

Father of the Bride meets Bride Wars in Forever Hold Your Peace, in which two ex-best friends find themselves shockingly entangled after more than two decades apart, for fans of Good Company.
When their newly engaged kids ask all four divorced parents to meet each other over brunch, everyone RSVPs yes--secretly hoping someone at the table will get to the bottom of the bottomless mimosas fast enough to say what they're all thinking: that this engagement, coming after a whirlwind romance between two people barely out of college, is too much too soon.
But at that brunch it's not the impulsive couple's decisions that end up under the microscope, as it turns out June, mother of the bride, and Amy, mother of the groom, certainly do know each other--they're ex-best-friends who haven't spoken since their explosive falling out more than twenty-five years ago. Reeling from their unwanted reunion and eager to shift the spotlight off their past as decades-old secrets and rivalries come to light, the two moms battle it out for the prize of Most Enthusiastic About This Wedding.
But when their history--and their present-day shenanigans--threaten to crack the foundations of the happy couple's future, June and Amy find themselves becoming unexpected allies in an all-hands-on-deck effort to get their kids (and themselves) a happily-ever-after two generations in the making.
Forever Hold Your Peace is perfect for readers who love messy, complicated family novels like All Adults Here and stories that bring the past and present together like One Italian Summer.

From oral history to written word, learn about the history of Oregon through the stories of the Indigenous peoples of the Willamette Valley.
The Willamette Valley is rich with history--its riverbanks, forests, and mountains home to the tribes of Kalapuya, Chinook, Molalla, and more for thousands of years. This history has been largely unrecorded, incomplete, poorly researched, or partially told. In these stories, enriched by photographs and maps, Oregon Indigenous historian David G. Lewis combines years of researching historical documents and collecting oral stories, highlighting Native perspectives about the history of the Willamette Valley as they experienced it.
The timeline spans the first years of contact between settlers and tribes, the takeover of tribal lands and creation of reservations by the US Federal Government, and the assimilation efforts of boarding schools. Lewis shows the resiliency of Native peoples in the face of colonization.
Undoing the erasure of these stories reveals the fuller picture of the colonization and changes experienced by the Native peoples of the Willamette Valley absent from other contemporary histories of Oregon.

All The World’s A Stage, As They Say.
In 1876 Philadelphia, Benjamin Grimm knows real life is much like the theater—people play their parts, hiding behind the illusion of their lives and never revealing their secrets. When he reunites with his childhood friend Eleanor Banneker, his delight turns to dismay. On learning she has been under a spell for the past seven years, forced to live as a servant in her own home, he realizes how sinister some secrets can be.
Ellie has spent the long years since her mother’s death under her stepmother’s watchful and unforgiving eye. Bewitched and hidden in plain sight, it seemed no one could help Ellie escape. Not even her own father, likewise bespelled. When she encounters Ben one evening, he seems immune to the magic that binds her. Her hope rekindles along with their friendship.
But time is running short. If they do not find a way to break the curse before midnight on New Year’s Eve, both Ellie and her father will be bound forever.

Introducing Elixir of the Gods: The Cocktail Guide to Greek Mythology, a must-have for any mythology enthusiast or cocktail lover. More than 20 free original recipes and 7 uncommon short stories from Greek Mythology!
This book seeks to bring these myths to life, to give them new meaning and relevance in the modern world. I have crafted each cocktail in this collection with care and attention to detail, inspired by the stories and characters of these ancient tales. There is a heavy emphasis on Greek flavors for these drinks, rather than simply trying to offer the widest variety of flavors. Whether you’re a fan of Greek mythology, a lover of cocktails, or simply someone looking for something new and exciting, I hope this book has something for you.
This e-book contains three variations of all the drinks in this book. The Zeus Edition is how I serve it in my bar. The Hades Edition is made using the minimum ingredients needed to still be the same drink. If you were in the underworld, it would have to do. The Aphrodite Edition is for those of us who aren’t thunder gods and would prefer something sweeter.
Discover the mythical origins of each cocktail and the story behind the ingredients used to create them. Whether you're looking for a new signature drink to impress your guests or simply want to indulge in a little bit of mythology, "Elixir of the Gods" is the perfect addition to your cocktail recipe collection.

Ever been part of a really tough project? So tough that you had to eat a teammate?
Unfortunately for an infamous group of pioneers, the effort to migrate to California reached those depths of project failure. Fortunately, we can use their story and other, historical examples to underscore the value of clear expectations.
Whether it’s a tragic journey west, the loss of a spacecraft (for the second time), or a corporate effort to look hip that created one of the nastiest personalities on the Internet, failed projects share a common trait; expectations for success could have been more clear.
MAP. MEASURE. MOVE. presents a framework for building clear expectations.

Behind closed doors, it’s bad for the Perri family. And the masks they wear deceive even the most perceptive eyes. Each of them—Sal and Isabella and sons, Franco and Luca—harbors a secret. No one knows what they’re hiding…or what they’re capable of.
1930s pre-war Italy a young girl has gone missing from Chianlalea, a quaint fishing village at the edge of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s eerily reminiscent of a similar incident that happened to Isabella Perri when she was a child. The missing girl’s body surfaces near the Perri’s marina. And when fingers point at Sal because of his alleged mafia connections Isabella stands by him, refusing to accept the gossip. And the warnings.
Frightful noises in the middle of the night. An intruder’s footsteps below. A second girl, Gia, a friend of Franco and Luca, goes missing. The girl with the pretty smile who, only a few days earlier, had been at their house. Discrepancies in the boys’ stories make them suspect and Isabella starts to question everything she thought she knew.
Ominous notes beneath the door, the locked shed looming in the backyard, and whispers of lies and deceit prove that Isabella and her family are no longer safe. And as she peels back the layers of her small town, secrets of her family begin to emerge. Secrets she didn’t know existed. Still scared, but refusing to remain silent, Isabella vows to make things right, protect her children, and save the next victim. But doing so will change their lives.
Forever.
My smile tells a lie. All of ours do. I’d never tell a soul what happens behind the walls of my home. My beautiful boys, Franco and Luca will never know what it’s like to live a normal life. We go through the motions of living, but it’s hard to live when there’s so much fear.

Springtide ushers in a season of bloom and fertility in Hazelfeur, but it also heralds the season of the bear - Artio's season, one which she rules over with relentless vengeance.
I've heard old tales of the goddess, tales from when she was green to motherhood, young and tender and forgiving, but it is hard to imagine such a thing when my knowledge of her is shrouded in red. She wishes to make the people of Hazelfeur suffer, and her army of bears, material and spectral, make ever-nearer attacks on our village.
This coming spring, I fear death.
Springtide has sprung, and the bear goddess Artio has awakened. For Rhoswen, sole Bearslayer of Hazelfeur, this means a season of overwhelm as vicious bears wreak violence upon her village. With one death too many and an insufferable anxiety haunting her, she sets out to liberate her people from Artio's bearspawn for good, even though to end the goddess's reign would mean to leave her without purpose.
In her search for the vengeful Artio, Rhoswen stumbles upon an enchanting forest maiden with secrets in her eyes and mysteries in her veins, a beauty which suddenly and unexpectedly captivates the Bearslayer beyond reason. Then she discovers the maiden is bound to Artio's forest and longs desperately for freedom, and Rhoswen's resolution hardens with passion.
She will unfetter Hazelfeur, and she will free her enchantress.
For fans of Katherine Arden's The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy) and Naomi Novik's Spinning Silver, The Bear & the Rose is a tale told in lush prose which readers will find brimming with folklore, adventure, and a sweet sapphic romance.

From Governor General's Literary Award-winning author Susin Nielsen comes a funny and heartfelt story about learning how to rise above your most embarrassing moment with humor, best friends and a killer triangle solo. Now in paperback!
We all have moments that define us. For the comically clueless Wilbur, his moment happened on the first day of middle school, when someone shared his private letter with the entire student body. It revealed some of Wilbur's innermost embarrassing thoughts that no one else should ever know.
Now it's the start of ninth grade and Wilbur hasn't been able to escape that major humiliation. His good friend Alex stuck by him, but Alex doesn't have as much time since he started dating Fabrizio. Luckily, Wil can confide in his best friend: his elderly neighbor Sal. Also, Wil's in the school band, where he plays the triangle. They're doing an exchange program with students from Paris, and Wilbur's billet, Charlie, a tall, chic young woman who plays the ukulele and burps with abandon, captures his heart. Charlie likes him, but only as a friend. So Alex, Fabrizio and Sal host a Queer Eye-style intervention to get Wil in shape and to build his confidence so he can impress Charlie when their band visits Paris, and just maybe replace humiliation with true romance in the City of Love.

Home is not a place. Home is a feeling. A Jewish home is first and foremost an emotional sensation of togetherness and belonging to an extended family. This is not a travel guide, nor a book about Jewish history, Jewish community institutions, Jewish sites, or kosher restaurants. The Beating Heart is a groundbreaking anthology that will take you on a cultural journey to Jewish destinations and communities around the world, as a family member peering into your own childhood home. Following in the footsteps of its companion anthology, Heartbeats, whose journey and story take place in the Jewish homeland of Israel, The Beating Heart will not only whet your appetite to explore Jewish communities around the globe, it will invite you – whether you are in the United States, Canada, England, or anywhere else in the world – to connect to the Jewish home inside your heart.
The Beating Heart is the culmination of an inspired project by Ya’acov Fried, a pioneer and leader in the world of educational travel, and Yishay Shavit, a leading Jewish tour educator. In this stunning anthology, leading tour educators take you on a fascinating and eye-opening journey from Western and Central Europe to the former Soviet Union and on to China, India, and Africa, where they delve deeply into Jewish communities with which they are intimately familiar. Their fresh, unconventional attitudes are the product of thousands of tours around the world exploring the Jewish angle in each destination. In each chapter, a local personality was chosen to shed light on unexplored terrains. The Beating Heart will allow you to experience, feel, learn, and enjoy the layers beneath each destination. Our hope is that this book will inspire you to travel to these destinations yourselves and to search for the Jewish angle in each place. We hope that such visits will pique your curiosity and cause you to reflect on – and even challenge – your own Jewish identity.
"The Beating Heart is an in-depth, refreshing book that offers insights into the heart of Jewish communities around the world from a historical and a contemporary lens. The book leads you to a variety of roads where you will discover our joint destiny." —Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, Senior Rabbi, Stephen S. Wise Synagogue, NYC
"A rare invitation to be part of the vision in which every Jew has the right to find their own Jewish expression as part of their Jewish heritage. Opens the door to meeting new friends from around the Jewish globe who all share the same commonality of purpose and responsibility: making the world a better place." —Avraham Infeld, President Emeritus of Hillel – Foundation for Jewish Campus Life=

You will be surprised to see how much we all have in common and the extent to which you feel part of each community." —Rabbi Elliot J. Cosgrove, Senior Rabbi, Park Avenue Synagogue, NYC
"The reader is brought face to face with the depth and breadth of the global Jewish community, as seen through the eyes of master educators and guides. It is, as the title suggests, a heartfelt journey." —Rabbi Elka Abrahamson, Director, Wexner Heritage Foundation

The tour educators and locals we meet throughout the pages of this book give us hope and inspiration." —Rabbi Steven Stark Lowenstein, Senior Rabbi, Am Shalom, Glencoe, Illinois and author of For the Love of Israel and For the Love of Being Jewish.

Human civilization is in trouble. How come? The fault lies with some men, who have a genetic defect caused by eons of human evolution where strong men prone to violence were biologically selected because they were needed to protect women, children, and the tribe from enemies and wild animals.
Times have changed. Now minatory men like Putin and Kim, who seem hell-bent on causing wars that may lead to thermonuclear destruction, are no longer useful or needed. They are anachronistic. Civilization would be better off without them.
The solution is the return to women's values - peace, love, human care, free play, happiness, nourishment, service, altruism, empathy, succorance, environmentalism, and so forth - by removing men from power and establishing a world controlled by women. Lollipop's fictional tale tells us how she made all this come about.
Despite many difficulties, Lollipop and her friends, male and female, establish a new form of government called Women's World, where peace and prosperity reign and wars are completely out of the question. Women's World used existing biological techniques to engineer the bad traits out of the Y chromosome, creating a new form of non-violent man who knows how to work and play well with others.
In this exquisite titillative narrative, we explore complex notions about gender, power, and the consequences of scientific advances. How Women Saved Civilization is a manifesto that defines and underlines the salient problems of modern society and offers an alternative vision for the future while making for delightful and charmingly engaging reading.

Putting God First: Jewish Humanism after Heidegger tackles the challenge of maintaining Jewish identity in a world dominated by Western humanism. It argues that the Holocaust reflects more broadly on contemporary humanism than the Jewish world has ever dared to acknowledge. It advances the view that the establishment of the State of Israel presents a profound historical opportunity to disentangle Jewish thought from elements of the Western humanist tradition that threaten Jewish survival and conceal from view the plausibility of core Jewish ideas and values. The work proposes that a healthy and peaceful relationship between Westernism and a robust Jewish identity can be achieved only by unraveling the two, and it presents a philosophical path for achieving this.
Following a precise analysis of modern and postmodern thought that includes discussions of Immanuel Kant, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Ludwig Wittgenstein, George Steiner, Bruno Latour, Hannah Arendt, Jonathan Haidt, Daniel Kahneman, and others, the centerpiece of the book offers a close reading of the masterwork Being and Time, which Martin Heidegger composed in the period when his thought was gravitating toward his endorsement of Hitler and Nazism. This deep dive into Heidegger’s ontological understanding of how the individual (Dasein) interacts with others in space and time yields a method for articulating the onto-theological meanings of key Jewish concepts such as the Nefesh (psyche), the Neshamah (soul), Tzelem Elohim (human being in God’s image), Am Segulah, (Jewish chosenness), Shabbat, the Land of Israel, and more in texts such as the Tanya, the Sefat Emet, the Nefesh HaChayim, the Kedushat Levi, and in the writings of Rav Kook and the Maharal of Prague. Ultimately the book proposes a disentangled spiritual/political vision for a Jewish state that is characterized by the politics of Tikun Olam.

A woman with an extraordinary mind and a dark past demanding revenge. 17 planets divided into four factions whose leaders forgot their inhabitants all arrived from the same place: Planet Earth. A threat that could turn a tool that saves everyone’s life into the worst imaginable nightmare. Elizabeth, a chameleonic and seductive woman, is the only one who can make a difference, but her uniqueness weighs on her shoulders like the world weighs on Atlas' shoulders.
These are just some of the ingredients of this novel where action scenes alternate with political ones and the relationship between the many characters, as much as the suffering and the claustrophobic anguish, alternate with the human need for love and loyalty. All seasoned with a drop of eroticism and a hint of humour.
In the novel there are a couple of features that I haven’t often found in other science fiction books. First, I worked with an artist to create drawings to add between the chapters in order to clarify the settings, but deliberately not too accurate so that the readers can fill in the gaps with their imagination. Second is the point of view I used. I like to think that science fiction is an excuse to talk about the complexity of human relationships, from an anthropological, philosophical and political point of view. I wanted to touch all the fundamental points for every life story: Power, Value, Freedom, Love, Truth and Justice. I have created the characters using my experience as a psychologist, giving them depth and realism. I also did a lot of research to be as precise as possible about technologies and life in the future on other planets.
The book has been translated into English from its original Italian publication and has been edited accordingly.

Fresh, organic, delicious, sustainable… Permaculture gardening at its best.
Have you been dreaming of creating a backyard garden oasis but unsure where to start?
Are you concerned with the effects of global warming on the planet and want to do your part to reduce your carbon footprint?
Does the capitalistic structure of our society make you uncomfortable or nervous, and do you want to find ways to be closer to nature and more self-sufficient?
Let’s face it–there’s not a lot of good to be said about industrialized farming. It pollutes air and water, emits greenhouse gases, and costs the environment an average of $3 trillion annually. With all of these things in mind, it is vital that we develop new ways to produce food that stop killing both our planet and economy.
The best way to accomplish this? Permaculture.
Simply put, permaculture is a holistic approach to living harmoniously with nature. When it comes to gardening, it means growing local, fresh, organic produce that supports the environment.
And the underlying ethics of permaculture are centered around how we connect to our planet – things we can all agree are important in our industrialized, often ostracizing world.
Discovering permaculture and incorporating its principles will have you living the sustainable life you’ve always wanted while benefiting the planet at the same time.
And the best part? Anyone, regardless of previous experience or skill level, can become a permaculture master in no time.
In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know to start your permaculture garden. Inside, you’ll discover:
- The life-changing issues our planet currently is facing and how the only answer is permaculture
- The different zones of a permaculture garden and a step-by-step guide on how to plan for each different zone
- All of the essential information you need to be successful, from water management and mulching to companion planting and contouring
- How to be successful with permaculture in an urban setting
- What biomimicry is and how goes hand-in-hand with the ideas behind permaculture
- Hugelkultur beds – what they are, why they are beneficial, and how to build them
- The 12 principles of permaculture and how they apply to each stage of your gardening adventure
- How to store your produce to feed your family organic, homegrown produce year-round
- The ten best ways to make money off the excess bounties from your harvest
…and so much more!
Without careful planning, permaculture can be overwhelming.
But with all of the knowledge in this definitive guide, you will be able to plan and create a garden that is the envy of all permaculturists.
Step by step, plant by plant, you can have the garden and the life you have always dreamed of.

Why has antisemitism mutated into a potent form of anti-Zionism? What is the goal of a Jewish state in the twenty-first century? How can we bring unity to Israel’s diverse society? Rabbi Doron Perez offers a fresh approach to these pressing questions. Drawing on thinkers from the Vilna Gaon to Rav Kook, Rabbi Sacks to Robert Wistrich, this book weaves together an old-new spiritual approach to the Jewish state – both to understand its challenges and to lay out a vision for the future.
“Everyone to whom Israel is dear should have this book in their library." —Rabbi Berel Wein
“Rabbi Doron Perez has authored a powerful and passionate call for civility and unity within the Jewish community.… He makes a compelling case for the central role the State of Israel can play and, in particular, the Mizrachi movement which he heads with such distinction can – and must – play in assuring the continued flourishing of the Jewish people.… Read this book carefully and be inspired to do your share." —Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter, University Professor of Jewish History and Jewish Thought, Yeshiva University
"The success and sustainability of the Jewish People is in many ways dependent on its internal unity. Rabbi Perez has written a critical book about this very topic.… As a person who dedicates herself to sharing a love of Judaism, Israel, and of all Jews, I strongly recommend reading this book about our beloved Jewish state." —Miriam Peretz, Recipient of Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement
"Rabbi Doron Perez has masterfully woven biblical sources with medieval commentaries and contemporary thinkers to create a magnificent tapestry of the unique Jewish state illustrating its past and future. From the teachings of Avraham Avinu through Rav Kook, he has highlighted the religious, national, and universal tenets embraced by the Jewish people, and the importance of incorporating these three principles as a cultural platform for unity." —Rabbanit Shani Taragin, Educational Director, Mizrachi; Rosh Beit Medrash for Women, YU Israel
"In a world of polarizers and propagandists, Rabbi Doron Perez is a uniter – and, most important, an educator par excellence. In this important work, [he calls] on all of us, secular and religious, to better define the Jewish and Zionist mission." —Professor Gil Troy, author, The Zionist Ideas; columnist, Jerusalem Post

Gods and Demons Clash in Mythological Japan
In the Kingdom of Yamato, magic is misunderstood. When humans pray at shrines to the spirits of the land, their wishes are not granted directly. Instead, sometimes gods are born: shapeshifting animals with the power to conjure weapons and enter the realm of dreams.
When a snow monkey named Saru is born from a prayer of hope, he longs to understand the truth about his nature. At an enchanted temple, he crosses paths with the demonic monk Akame whose infernal magic destroys everything Saru loves—and could soon threaten the whole world.
Saru flees to Otari Village, a settlement of kind people who welcome him into their homes. The village, however, is plagued by ghosts and wicked men who would exploit Saru’s powers. With Akame’s arrival looming, will Saru save the village, or lose everything again? How far will he go to protect those he loves?
From the Valley of Orchids is the first book in the epic fantasy series The Legend of Saru.

Fitzwilliam Darcy at forty-two still has that certain je ne sais quoi that had captivated her as a girl. But can Darcy make things right in a world where corruption abounds and where trouble and the fantastic keep happening whenever Sofia is near? Told against the backdrop of the sporting life, from the chase to the turf, from the ring to the links, My Cousin Darcy lays bare the secrets of a flawed and sensitive hero from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Only the strange final outfit yields no memories. With trepidation, she dresses her body in its degrading arrangement of straps, more harness than clothing, and passes through the mirror. She feels that this time she may be someone else’s fantasy.

Meg McGrath, a publicist with few but impressive credits on her resume, finds herself playing in the P.R. big leagues when she lands a job as head of publicity for The Chieftain’s Son, an Irish historical drama based on an insanely bestselling series of romance novels. The show’s buzz hits the stratosphere in its first season, and given her lack of experience, the network questions Meg’s ability to keep up with the skyrocketing publicity demands of their top tier show.
When her boss threatens to replace her with a new head of P.R. and demote Meg to an assistant position, she convinces him to make a deal. If she orchestrates an unforgettable splash for The Chieftain’s Son at Cali Con, a massive annual convention of the popular arts in San Diego, she’ll continue at the helm of publicity for the show.
Much to Meg’s resentment, in San Diego the network pairs her up with Cian Malley, the savvy publicist of the network’s other top show, Star’s Shadow, to show rookie Meg the ropes. Meg's initial game plan is to simply siphon off the best of her competitor's marketing flair in order to keep her job – until the heat between them burns down the boundaries of their professional connection, complicating everything.
Will the sizzle between Meg and Cian inspire her to up her game and impress her boss, or does her naivete blind her to the real P.R. game going on behind her back? "

Two years after Naomi murdered the serial killer and rapist Vernon Proffit, she is attempting to adjust to a quiet life with her wife, Tiffany. But Vernon's flock is not done with her. Under new leadership, their numbers have swollen as they morphed from a single entity into a network of cultists called Apostles of the Cloven Hand.
Naomi has suppressed her abilities since killing Vernon, but she cannot ignore the voices of the young people the new flock tortures and molests. They scream for help in her dreams every night, causing her to question her own sanity.
When she uses her long-dormant abilities to stop an attempted gay-bashing, Naomi's true identity is exposed. The cult sends an assassin to kill Naomi and her family, forcing them to flee the state while the Apostles move to take everything the family has built.
Naomi fought the cult before and won. But that was before she had her chosen family to worry about. Now, she must choose between hiding on her own to keep her family safe or fighting back to destroy the Apostles. If she hides, the Apostles will continue to victimize those near them. Inspirational Values is an informative non-fiction self-help book that uses normal daily activities as a basis for my message. The main purpose is to be able to engage with and relate to other people's life experiences, which helps to show that you are not alone in any situation. Our lives are full of challenges we all encounter.
This book offers advice on how much guidance our children need, the importance of helping others in need, how to resolve conflicts among families to keep the trust and love and our sensitivity; how we can rediscover ourselves to address our weaknesses, desires and how to go about becoming our best, with God's love in our hearts.
The bond I have with my daughter has inspired me to write this book because it reflects most of our heart-to-heart conversations wherever they occur naturally and I feel most parents and children can benefit from this.
My target audience is the youth; a concise self help guide for our ever fast-growing children of today, but as it is a written narrative with stories of atmosphere and character of life, it can be beneficial to everyone.
The religious aspect included is due to my faith, beliefs, experiences and most of all, my relationship with God.

Business owners must have a working knowledge of the law in their own country so that they can avoid trouble and adhere to the laws.
Business Law Essentials is a compact but handy guide for learning about business laws in the US. Whether you are a student on the verge of beginning your career, a new business owner, or an employee, this book will provide you with a deep understanding of the legal limits within which an organization should function and how an organization interacts with the regulators for the specific business sector.
Some notable features of this book are:
- Coverage of general laws such as contract laws to very specific laws such as securities laws
- Coverage of laws that are recently developing, such as laws relating to data protection
- Explanation of the rationale behind the laws and features of laws in simple, jargon-free language
- Questions at the end of each chapter to test your understanding of the chapter rather than your memory.
- Explanations against the backdrop of real-world scenarios and examples
This book will give you a head start into the field of business law and an ability to know where exactly to look, in the event an in-depth understanding of the laws is required.

DAAN! is a collection of unpretentious poems about everyday life, love, and loss. About mental health, nature, cats, and much more.
It shows the joys, the pain, the struggles, and the victories of a chronically ill wheelchair user.
DAAN! shows us that poetry does not have to be stuffy, but can be anything from whimsical and vibrant to sad and profound.
Whether it’s free verse, a ghazal, pantoum, or triolet, an American cinquain, four and twenty, Kerouac haiku, or an American sentence, Katz puts his own unique spin on every poem he writes, no matter its form.

Bullied to death in the boardroom?
Private Investigator Rebecca Marte doubted it. Since when would the president and CEO of a highly successful company find the criticisms of his subordinates so destructive to his self-image that he would commit suicide? That, however, was what her new client, Nicole Veles, claimed.
Nicole painted a toxic, if not criminal, picture of defamation leading up to the man’s death. And after his demise, one of his most vocal detractors ascended to his position. That was enough to raise Rebecca’s suspicions. She took the job.
But as she began her investigation, hints that Nicole’s beliefs were tainted by her history became difficult for Rebecca to ignore. Two years earlier, Nicole had been kidnapped, and she still bore the mental and emotional scars of abuse and captivity. She’d cut all connections to her friends and fled her past by relocating to Colorado where no one knew her. She took a job where long-term relationships were impossible, save one stubborn older woman who wouldn’t take no for an answer—and who just happened to be the wife of the suicide victim.
While everyone else thought the man’s death, while tragic, was just the consequence of high-pressure business and depression over the loss of the company he had founded, could Rebecca trust anything to the contrary that her new client told her?
“As with his previous mysteries, Bruce M. Perrin excels in an investigative profile that is as much a psychological analysis as a detective’s deductions.” —D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

This is a different kind of cocktail book. It is a mix of short war stories and original cocktails.
Scuttlebutt is a military term for rumors being spread around. It is usually based on something real, but as it spreads, it becomes embellished. Sometimes, the truth is completely lost to history, but the stories continue.
Half of it is war stories over the last three millennia about warriors from around the world. Uncommon tales about famous people like Scipio Africanus and Colonel Benjamin Franklin. Others are heroes you don't know but should, like Jan Kubiš, Trondheim, and Boudica. This isn't a history book, it's just the kinds of scuttlebutt you hear when drinking in the military.
The second half is original cocktails created as tributes to their stories. Each recipe includes two additional variations. The "Trench Edition" provides easy substitutions using common ingredients because you shouldn't have to own a bar to enjoy a quality cocktail. The "Garrison Edition" tells you exactly how to make the drink sweeter. There are more than 90 recipes to keep you busy.
Drinking and telling stories have been a big part of my life, and I hope you enjoy both of them while reading this book.

The battle for power is fierce in a world where mortals wield the strength of dead gods in this first book of a high-stakes epic fantasy series from Quinn Thomas.
A thousand years ago, the immortals were slain, their power passed down to a chosen few known as aspects. The competition between noble families for control of these aspects has plunged the land into a never-ending cycle of war and bloodshed.
The Tevulun family has been driven to the brink of extinction by the most recent war. When Tarana Tevulun, who possesses the abilities of Calamity, learns of her family's intention to murder her, she flees with the assistance of a band of mercenaries. The Tevulun’s enemy, the Ma’isans, take advantage of her absence to advance and besiege the capital city of Vicrum. Tarana returns to fight for the city, but faces a difficult challenge due to the involvement of the mortal aspect of Death – thought to be the sole remaining neutral aspect.
Meanwhile, a young soldier named Micol deserts the army after his first taste of battle. When he ends up in the besieged city of Vicrum, he finds himself embroiled with a group of outlaws. Thrust into a world of thieves and rebels, he must confront his deepest fears and make a decision that will change his life forever.
Death's Reckoning is a page-turning epic fantasy for fans of ensemble casts and character-driven plot twists, with echoes of Steven Erikson's Malazan series. Join these mortals as they wield god-like power in a world where even the noblest intentions can lead to destruction.

A fun YA romantic dramedy about two college seniors with radically different theses about what will bring them happiness — and their growing entanglement during Senior Week that may upend everything they thought they knew.
College valedictorian Landon has sacrificed all the fun of college for top grades and the opportunity for a high-paying tech job that he thinks will set him up for his dream life.
As Senior Week — the party- and activity-packed week before graduation — begins, Landon collides literally and figuratively with fellow senior and aspiring travel blogger Aurora, who wants nothing more than to be free to travel the world. The two of them get off to a disagreeable start, but as their paths continue to cross, they soon discover a deepening connection, which is complicated by Landon’s pursuit of his dream girl.
More than just a will-they-or-won’t-they-end-up-together story, Senior Thesis examines the value of life plans versus improvisation and whether we can really predict what will bring us happiness. It also explores the challenges of being different in a world where conformist, consumerist currents dominate most people’s dating and life choices.
Written in screenplay form, this novella moves fast, delivering laughs, memorable characters, and timeless truths.
Admission is open, and you’re invited to experience a fun and meaningful Senior Week.

Kings bow down to the medieval mafia in a realm where power is earned by strength instead of gifted by blood.
All over the Emerald Kingdom, crime rules the crown. The king and queen decree laws that are so weak the royal guards barely heed them. On the cobblestone streets, respected guilds bound by blood oaths are the realm’s true power. The men and women who lead them are called Swordfathers.
Each guild wields a unique strength. One flaunts its muscle by sparring with anvils instead of swords. Another casts spells using daggers as wands, sometimes while the blade is plunged in their enemy. A third guild controls dragons as deadly as they are vulnerable. The guilds’ equal power has kept their blades sheathed for many years.
War nears as their fragile peace crumbles. Dark lies disguised as tempting gifts trap the unwary in a web of debt. Swordfathers with wits sharper than knives ruin their enemy’s web while spinning their own. In Masters of Kings, the first critical threads are cut apart to launch the war that will decide which Swordfather rises to dominate the medieval mafia.

"Lasting change is a series of compromises. And compromise is all right, as long your values don’t change." —Jane Goodall
"HE FELL DOWN HARD—stone-cold dead, next to my feet. It didn’t take much—just a pull of the trigger. The way I figured; a bullet always had its way of settling things. It asked no questions. Just did what it was told. And I hadn’t planned on resolving my disagreement with the Thin Man that way. But he left me no choice. He pulled his Luger, deciding that one of his .28s was the only way to resolve the issue. Trouble was, he missed. But a .22 from my Colt didn’t."
Cartwright’s case starts off simply enough. Miss Stonewall from the Mutual Trust Insurance Company wants him to track down a missing orangutan. The thing is, as Cartwright explains to her, he doesn’t do orangutans. But when Miss Stonewall offers him a large wad of cash for the job, his suspicions are piqued.
While checking out the orangutan’s cell, Cartwright stumbles across a rare green diamond setting off a chain of events and lands Cartwright in the middle of a tangled web of conspiracies. From the Argentine Dirty Wars and Death Squads of the 1970s to an elderly gentleman who masterminds one of the largest diamond heists of the century to a cold-blooded assassin determined to fulfill his destiny, Cartwright’s confronted at every turn, in his efforts to solve one of the most tangled and diabolical mysteries of his career.
“The Case of the Runaway Orangutan is a nuanced and artfully layered mystery thriller brimming with non-stop action fueled by twists and turns that will keep you guessing till the very end.”
“Spencer’s latest fast-paced mystery thriller featuring James Cartwright, a private detective from the backstreets of Detroit, has it all.”
“The Case of the Runaway Orangutan reads like a runaway freight train on the verge of derailing at every turn.”

This story opens on a burgeoning mining town in Transylvania during the fading years of the 19th century. Life goes on uneventfully, save for the occasional trouble caused by the greedy local baron. Three young men—a poor Romanian, a gypsy, and a rich Hungarian—are bound by a strong friendship that is frowned upon by the town elite. During a trip to the baron's forbidden lands, one of the men discovers a mysterious artifact that symbolizes humanity's evil nature, bringing out the worst in people, particularly those predisposed to wrongdoings.
Far right extremists, socialists, and an order of Christian Orthodox monks vie to get their hands on it, which leads to a series of tragic events that disturb the town's peace. Murders, insanity, and suicide wreak havoc in the region. A wild chase and a fight for the possession of the artifact end up altering the mind of a boy who is bound to change the course of history. Meanwhile, a doomed love story begins between the young man who unearthed the artifact and a rich local girl who's already betrothed.
The story takes place in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and spans an eclectic mix of fiction sub-genres, including romance and mystery. Themes include the rise of extreme politics in Europe, feminism, and the conflict between religion and naturalism.

Clarissa Martinez, an Asian/Caucasian young woman has lived in seven different countries by the time she turns twenty. She has no lasting connection to any place and thinks it’s time to settle somewhere she could eventually call home. But where?
She decides to live in the city of her birth, There, she joins a quest for the provenance of stolen illuminated manuscripts, a medieval art form that languished with the fifteenth-century invention of the printing press, hoping it would give her the sense of belonging she craves. But will it be enough?
For her, these ancient manuscripts elicit cherished memories of children’s picture books her mother read to her, nourishing a passion for art.
The trail of the manuscripts leads to an American soldier who served in World War II. Clarissa is anxious to know what motivated him to steal and keep the artwork for fifty years. But instead of easy answers, she finds bigger questions.
Immersed in art, but naïve about life, she’s disheartened and disillusioned by the machinations the quest reveals of an esoteric, sometimes unscrupulous art world. What compels individuals to steal artworks, and conquerors to plunder them from the vanquished? Why do collectors buy artworks for hundreds of millions of dollars? Who decides the value of an art piece and how?
The Golden Manuscripts is inspired by real events—the theft of medieval manuscript illuminations during the second world war.

The Eternal Return is the story of failed writer "Lucky" and his voyage back to childhood, to his unrealized dreams, and to the nightmares he has kept hidden from himself and others.
After a jobless, loveless, and friendless decade in California, Lucky returns to New York in an attempt to finally finish the novel he has been pretending to work on for years. His plans are interrupted when he befriends an uncanny woman named Betty who progressively starts to resemble the heroine in his unfinished novel. As the mystery of Betty's existence begins to unravel, Lucky is forced to confront his past and decide what is real and what is illusion.
A sinister reimagining of the Pygmalion legend - alternately monstrous, cynical, and comedic - it is a book that follows W.B. Yeats' dictum that "sex and death are the only things that can interest a serious mind."

A literary odyssey along the highways at a time when a new form of superintelligence has emerged.
Autodrive is a work of literary fiction that melds techno-scientific inquiry and storytelling, critical theory and comedy, speculative fiction and satire. It is a road novel of sorts, an odyssey along the highways at a time when a new form of superintelligence has emerged. This new form of artificial intelligence is not entirely distinct from the characters in the narrative—it is ingrained in the machines they already use, the vehicles they already take, the systems they are already part of, but cannot fully see. The human character who is typically at the center of the fictional world gives way to an eccentric cast of performers—an ensemble of people and machines.

"If Guy finds out… he’ll do his very best to kill him and, in the process, Guy might get badly hurt, or worse. And then he will go to prison. Or hospital. Or to a cemetery. And I’d rather there wasn’t a risk of that happening."
The Louboutins are quivering. They are terrified. Their nemesis – mud – is everywhere.
Ever since D’Artagnan spirited Nicole away from London to become mistress of the Duchess, his seventeenth-century château in rural France, they’ve refused to come out of hiding.
Mud, manure and the Duchess’s capricious behaviour aside, Nicole has a lot on her mind, most of which she’s can’t share with her imperious, irritating but compellingly seductive French husband. An horrific experience from her past has caught up with her and, while she's determined to get justice, it must be without D'Artagnan's knowledge…
Meanwhile, there's a wedding to plan, a wedding planner from hell to keep in check, a temperamental castle to placate – and a couple of spirited horses who have taken up residence. And then there is Nina, the foster daughter of neighbours, who stirs up feelings that Nicole cannot ignore...

Jolts, Synchronicities, Dream Catchers and Milagros: A Memoir Into the Fire of Original Experience challenges the reader to look below the surface and see what is most important to one’s body, mind, heart and spirit. The book explores different themes that make up the author’s journey of becoming as he presents a memoir that goes to the epicenter of being human.
The stories in this book span seven decades. They begin in a 3 flat apartment above a tavern owned by the author’s family on the northwest side of Chicago living in a free ranging upbringing and take the reader on across glorious wild and scenic landscapes throughout the United States, mostly in the Southwest, as well as Canadian pristine waters of Quetico Provincial Park/ Lake Superior, political turbulent West African countries where rip tides invite ominous fate. It has a heavy bent on the West exploring indigenous connections with nature, covering Hopi Land, Lakota ways, and other native traditions that have guided the author’s journey to becoming more in sync with how nature communicates.
This book is an interwoven personal experiential tapestry of four distinctly profound, influential categories: Jolts: blindsiding harrowing challenges that have greatly shaken Paige’s view of life; Synchronicities: peak experiences and serendipitous encounters that have remarkably placed him in the right place at the right time, propelling him toward the direction of his destiny; Dream Catchers: inspirational people and nature revelations instilling compelling lessons of eternal wisdom; and Milagros: miracles guiding him toward a deeper spiritual and more mystical awakening with the universe.

Through their individual perspectives, the authors offer unique insights and practical advice on how to better understand and support one's spouse during the grieving process by depending less on themselves and more on God.
This book is a must-read for anyone who has experienced the loss of a child or for those who want to support a loved one during a difficult time. Written with love, honesty, and vulnerability, Our Hope for Isabelle is a powerful reminder, even in the midst of great pain and loss, there is always hope for a brighter future through Jesus.
