The number of German immigrants who arrived in Canada in the decades immediately after the end of World War II and during the Wirtschaftswunder (economic miracle) years are dwindling, and the risk of losing first-hand accounts of their immigration experience grows greater with each passing year. The idea of collecting and preserving these stories began to percolate throughout S.W. Ontario's Waterloo Region’s German-Canadian community and here we systematically gather and assess the stories of German immigrants, with research and writing overseen by the Waterloo Centre for German Studies.
