aulsmith : The Complete Works are NOT a good read. Some of the plays are. A lot of the poetry is. The plays are often better performed, so listen to an audio or watch a DVD.

aulsmith : This one turned me off Austen for decades. I'd start with Persuasion or Sense and Sensibility.

aulsmith : A good read? Not really. There's lots of fine writing coupled with Steinbeck's usual misogyny and a group of very dark characters. I still think most of Steinbeck is worth plowing through, but this one isn't for sitting and enjoying.

aulsmith : If you like long wordy epic fantasies, it's a good read. Otherwise, avoid.

aulsmith : It's Christian apologetics. A good read if you agree, tedious if you don't

aulsmith : Hugo was paid by the word and this work meanders shamelessly whenever he needed extra money. The digressions are interesting, but I kept losing track of the plot and gave up.

aulsmith : An excellent book, but hard to read for the uninitiated.

aulsmith : There's a lot worth reading in this book besides the recipes, but it's best done when you're working in the kitchen.
