Jannes: " By Blood by Ellen Ulman is a book about a guy who rents an office next to a psychotherapist's office and becomes too interested in the meetings he hears through the wall. Thought about that a lot when we were talking about Ned Goodwin."

Jannes: "The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes is a great story of someone moving through life with a huge bag of regrets they're dragging behind them, realizing that the choices life made that got them where they are might be their own fault and not "fate" or "someone else's problem" or whatever else."

Jannes: "The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon is a story that is hard to describe, but was the first book I read that felt like some sort of thriller while simultaneously feeling impossibly absurd and also just "this can't be happening" impossible at once."
