Teen Reads for the Younger Reader

Questo gruppo è diventato ufficialmente inattivo. Capita. Se vuoi riattivare questo gruppo o crearne uno nuovo sullo stesso argomento, vai a questa pagina.

Do you have a child whose reading level far outreaches his/her age?

Do you see test scores for your child which indicates lexile scores equivalent of a high school or college aged student?

Do you want to pre-read all of the books your child tackles, just to make sure there isn't any "subject matter" that would be inappropriate for their age level?

Then this group is for you.

Let's post titles which may hold the interest of an advanced reader but doesn't expose that reader to the sex, drugs, violence, etc. which seems to dominate traditional teen reads.

To post to the group, but the book title as the subject, then give your notes/thoughts on the title with age recommendations, etc. in the post. Since everyone will have a different definition of "appropriate", give justifications for your choices and/or mini-warnings if there is "mild violence", "some language" etc. so parents can make their own decisions.

If you want to add your own comments to a book and/or disagree with the recommendation, you can simply (and respectfully) add them to that same post. That way we don't have dozens of postings all mentioning the same books.

We'll see how it works. Let's use the LT community to help parents of advanced readers make wise choices to find "appropriate" titles.

Remember - this isn't about censorship. Don't list books kids should NOT read. Keep it positive and help spread information on those quality reads other parents may have missed - or not had time to pre-read.
