Okay, first of all, that is not Malka on the cover of the book. Malka is a red-headed Jewish child whose family has migrated from Russia to Argentina in the late 19th century to become farmers. The cover woman inviting us to gaze at her cleavage is a very minor character. I can only assume she has been placed there for marketing purposes.

Anyhow, the story is awful. While the introduction and opening chapter offer an interesting peek into a real chapter of history -- Little Kibbutz on the Argentinian Prairie, if you will -- the interjection of supernatural elements overwhelm the slice of life bits with pointless sensationalism.

Malka's neighbor down the road has a religious vision of the prophet Elias, who urges him to create a golem to help with his failing farm -- a dark-skinned, unpaid farm worker. When the cover woman falls in love with the golem, she accidentally kicks off a cascade of violence that just throws away all the potential of the setting and characters. Originally created in the 1980s, this work seems to be a product of the previous decade's slavesploitation genre more than anything else.… (altro)

Dieter Lumpen tiene tanto la imagen del clásico aventurero como del que no quiere saber nada de aventuras. No es extraño, pues, que sea la propia Aventura la que se cruce en su camino y lo arrastre con ella. Con su imagen de tipo elegante y de modales amables, sin oficio ni beneficio conocidos, Dieter Lumpen nos conduce de Turquía al Caribe pasando por escenarios tan clásicos de la aventura como China o Venecia.

Aparecido por primera vez en 1981 en las páginas de Cairo, Dieter Lumpen se publicó en diversas revistas hasta su final en 1994. Esta edición contiene los cinco álbumes de los que consta la serie, incluyendo El precio de Caronte, el último de ellos no publicado anteriormente en tomo recopilatorio en castellano, así como un prólogo de Tim Sale y un texto de la periodista Celia Macías Castejón, que cierra el volumen.… (altro)

Donkere tekeningen, waar het licht van een kaars in opgloeit, of soms opeens de banen van de zon transparant doorheen vallen. Een al even donker verhaal, waarin een onder druk gezette ketter haar tong afbijt en in naargeestige spelonken misvormde babylijkjes worden gevonden. Onsmakelijk, dacht ik eerst, maar ik was al snel gewonnen door de souplesse waarmee historische motieven ineen worden geweven: de concurrerende machten van vorst, bisschop en inquisiteur, de concurrerende spiritualiteit van christendom en de klassieke godin Diana. Tussendoor springen we naar de verre toekomst, waar zich op een aftands ruimteschip ook weer onverkwikkelijke taferelen afspelen en een jonge astronaut probeert te achterhalen wat zijn onbetrouwbare superieuren in hun schild voeren.… (altro)
