Legacy of the Tigers chronicles the story of Jasmine on her trek to find her loved one Danny Hardy, an American pilot. The story starts in the winter of 1942 and takes us through to 1947, significant not for the end of WWII, but for the rise of Communism in China. Chiang Kai-Shek and Mao Zedong figure prominently in the latter parts of this story.

Jasmine sought to find Danny against great odds: First we learn she was gang-raped and gave birth to - and cares for - the child that was the result of this gang rape. Jasmine was robbed by thugs later on and thrown in jail, accused by communists as being subversive. You would think that being and the horrible conditions of her confinement would keep her down, but it does not deter Jasmine from her quest, which carries her thousands of miles, to find Danny. You can't help but be drawn into the book right from the beginning

This was a wonderful book in two aspects. First, it is the engaging and emotional story of Jasmine searching for Danny against all odds but never losing her sense of decency or her goals. Secondly, this was a wonderful book to learn the history of the rise of Communism in China during this period and the flight of Chiang Kai-Shek to Taiwan. The most history that we learn in the West tells us what happens after a movement, and so I found this book particularly interesting, reading about the rise of Communism and the flight of Chaing Kai-Shek. All the while, these events affect Jasmine and her quest, but she never loses sight of her love.

Only after finishing the book did I that this was the third of three and I am now going to have to get the first two. I can highly recommend Legacy of the Tigers and go out on a limb and recommend the entire series. Iris Yang is a gifted writer; whether you read Legacy of the Tiger for the story of Jasmine, or the historical aspects, or for both, you will not be disappointed.

I want to thank Open Books and LibraryThing for the copy. I am voluntarily leaving this review.

China is in political chaos and jasmine is living through it. Will she manage to find Danny and her family or will she just give up in hopes of living a half decent life with the baby she never asked for? Either way it won't be easy and will be something she won't soon forget.

I love how this book focused on Jasmine. I was so interested in knowing how her life was gonna play out. I also love how it goes throughout almost her entire life. It made it so that you could get the answers to the questions that you were asking yourself throughout the other books. The new characters introduced are also very sweet wonderful people that I got attached too. I think that this was definitely the best book out of the three and I loved every minute of it.

Overall, I think that if you like historical fiction then you'll love these books. They are engaging mentally and emotionally and are set at just the right pace, especially this book.

Birch and Danny are caught by the Japanese and must fight for their life's. Will they make it out of POW camp and live on to find their answers and serve their country or will they perish before they can live out their dreams?

The sequel to the book Wings of a Flying tiger certainly keeps up with the wonderful development of characters. I was engrossed in this story without a doubt. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Birch and Danny and was hoping against hope that both of them would live through the story and find happiness. It has a good pace with skipping ahead in time so that you can see how the characters are developing and getting the answers to the questions that you start to ask yourself throughout the book.

Overall, amazing character development and storytelling that make you want to keep reading, makes you feel something, and makes you relate and want the characters want.

I can't wait to start reading the third and final installment of this series.

During world War II cousins Birch, Jasmine, and Daisy are each going through so many horrible things, but then we also have Danny who is just trying to survive, as well. When their paths all cross a wonderful heart wrenching story is born.

Wow, this was an amazing and engaging read. I felt so connected to the characters and felt their fear and relief with them. That is the sign of some amazing writing right there. Particularly, I liked close to Jasmine. She was so kind, sweet, and amazing amounts of brave. Even her cousin Daisy was so sweet and pure and kind and I adored these two characters the most. Even though it was bound to happen I believe that the deaths were not just unexpected and thrust in there to get rid of the characters or not really thought out. (A pet peeve for me.)

My only complaint is the fact that sometimes the time would shift forward and there would be no warning as to when it happened or to how far in time that the story was going. That threw me off a couple times until I finally realized.

A warning though that this book has scenes blood, death, rape, and torture so if that is something you can't read then you have been warned.
