Wow, this book tugged at all my emotions. Right in the beginning when his dying mom said "I'm sorry" brought me to tears for many reasons.
This book was sad, funny, eye-opening and informative. It takes the reader into a behind-the-scenes look at the devastation of the rapid progression of ALS. The ending was very sad for me watching my dad suffer (not from ALS but cancer).
Although a short book, which I could have read in a day, it took me a while to read because it was very emotional for me., I had to take it in small doses. The funny parts were well received by me. Woody sure must have been a character. I would have loved to have known him personally.
I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway and from Russ Woody. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review this book and for allowing us to read about a very special, emotional time in your life.

Russ Woody tells of the short period of time spent with his father who was dying of ALS. He tells how his father impacted his own young sons, people he worked with and even strangers. By the time you are through reading this book you feel like you knew Woody and you also feel the loss of Woody's passing. Such a heartfelt book.

An amazing memoir of a certain time period shared by a father and son. Russ Woody has the writers touch, the ability to reach into his own heart and place those feelings inside YOUR soul. HEROIC HEART is the 2nd book of his that i've read and i can relate to both...being the same age just added to the understanding.

His dad Woody was diagnosed with ALS, a prognosis of continued mental health trapped inside a dying physical body. His mother died with days of his dads diagnosis and it was then, that he was finally able to envelop his dad with the love of HIS own family.

Woody's life was opened up and brightened by his grandsons, Russ and his wife, his sister Oleta, amazing close friends and the cast and crew of Becker, in particular Ted Danson.

Once again the author has tapped into a wide range of emotions and i ended the book with tears pouring down my cheeks as if I'D just lost a friend. And yet it is an uplifting story of love and life.

Irreverent, sarcastic and full of heart. Written as fiction but heavily dosed with reality... add in a wicked sense of humor and voila! Reading this is like taking a spin on a wild roller coaster ride of family dysfunction. One does wonder how
the sanity gene that eluded the other family members, somehow found its way into Robert Nirth's dna.

Right off the bat you'll be saying holy shit batman and laugh snorting your pepsi (or drink of choice) right onto the pages! Woody comes out swinging. But it' not all screwy...the end ties it all up wonderfully where the love and hope for his nephew emerges and he realized that families are not necessarily blood connections. " Love is a commodity of value, not a payment due".

I've always felt that sarcasm covers up a world of hurt. And here's a tidbit for ya, " sarcasm is the very breathing apparatus that has kept me alive in the terrifying depths of the dark black sea that is my family!" Touche' Russ.
