PreS-Gr 2—Before they became the couple that a child knows as Grandad and Gramps, two young men, waving a
rainbow flag from their pink VW bus, they were a romantic duo, traveling the world—or at least Europe—together,
camping under the stars. For the hope for new adventures, and the glimpse of intergenerational kindness and
understanding, this lovely book should be on every shelf.

"I've spent all this time trying to get rid of you, when maybe we should have faced our fears together."

Timid by Harry Woodgate was a cute tale about a non-binary child named Timmy dealing with anxiety. They love performing but when it's time for the school play their fears take over. Timmy loves performing at home but the thought of a public audience brings out the inner voice called "Roar" that fills them with doubt.

I love how this book personifies what it feels like to have anxiety and how the inner voice of fear manifests. I loved Timmy's friendship with Nia. Nia's unconditional acceptance and support helped Timmy overcome their fears and perform. Nia was patient and provided different ways that Timmy could deal with their anxiety and her support ultimately made the difference. This is so important because many people do not understand anxiety and don't know how to help someone when they are experiencing anxiety episodes.

This book also models for children how to be a great friend and how to be proactive in a crisis. Timmy was very shy and Nia extending her friendship and trying to get to know Timmy really healed to put them at ease and be able to open up about their fears. I also appreciated how Timmy being non-binary wasn't the central focal point of the story and was just accepted as their identity.

I recommend this one for children who are extremely shy and dealing with feelings of fear and anxiety. It's also great for teaching about acceptance and friendship. Thanks to @hearourvoicestours for the opportunity to be on tour for this one.

I vividly remember my very first cookbook. As a young girl I attended a children's cooking class hosted by the local gas company (they also sold cooking ranges). They gave each of us a cookbook. It had lots of good recipes that were simple enough, but also challenging and you could really learn to cook using it. This was different from the few cookbooks my mother had.

And as a mother, I later used the same cookbook with my children and I also acquired a "modern" one. They loved both! So it is a joy to present this delightful Baking Book for Kids from David Atherton.

Being honest in this review, I have to state that I have not personally tried these recipes. But based on my personal extensive kitchen life cooking for a family of seven and the bulk of that cooking being "scratch recipes," I can say the recipes look good, have relatively few ingredients, are simple to assemble yet can present a bit of a challenge for younger cooks, and are basic yet have delightful visual appeal.

The step-by-step processes are illustrated exceptionally well and feature a cast of young cooks and bakers diverse, happy, and excited about their activities. This would make a delightful gift to any child or home with several children. I would have loved to have this one for my own children. I plan on gifting my copy to one of my grands!

I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.

This is a vibrantly illustrated picture book about a grassroots Pride festival in a small town. Milly finds her grandfather's old Pride flag in the attic one day, and that sparks an idea: a Pride celebration in town. Milly gathers support for the idea, delegates tasks, plans the route, and arrives at the parade to find her grandfather at the head of the parade. With its color palette dominated by lime green, pink, and bright blue, this picture book explains the importance of celebrating our world's diversity in colors that jump off the page. Even if you haven't read Grandad's Camper, your heart will be warmed by the family Milly was born into and the family she gathers around her in her community.… (altro)
