Carolyn Wood's memoir about her time being a governess for the Robert Kennedy family after his death in 1968 and while Edith Kennedy was pregnant with their 10th child is fascinating. She tells the personal story of her experience with honesty, humor and mature insight, now 50 years later. When she arrived to Hyannis Port for her first day on the job, she was greeted by a secretary with "Welcome to the Monkey House". It turned out to be pretty crazy all thru out the summer and then rest of the year back in Boston. She brought a calm, loving energy to the household. And, she worked very hard to meet the high standards demanded of her. An Olympic feat, actually, as she was hired because of her gold medal swimming success at the 1960 Rome Olympics when she was 14 years old. Eight years later Robert Kennedy was inspired to hire her to guide his children to be the best they could be. I read it in one weekend, a good read!… (altro)
