Sweet story of a little girl who, envious of her big sister, finds something special to do for herself -- learn fandango like her mama. Very sweet in terms of the little girl relating to everyone in her family -- father-child time while he is teaching her to dance; sister interactions when Lola wistfully envies her big sister's hair, friends, abilities; and mother-child interactions in that Lola is emulating her mama. I recommend the audiorecording since you can really get the feel of the rhythms (1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12....).… (altro)

Lola wants to be like her older sister Clementina. This is completely real in little sister- big sister relationships. Lola finds dancing shoes. Papi teaches her the flamenco. She sleeps a lot and hides the learning from her mom. She surprises her mom with her dancing at her birthday party and her Papi gives her a new dress. The illustrations and story have a really cool Mexican muralish feel to them.

A story book for slightly older children that tells how Lola begins to learn the flamenco from her father after being inspired by finding her mother’s old flamenco shoes in the closet. She feels as though she’s not special compared to her older sister and learning dance from her father makes her feel special. She works very hard and performs at her mother’s surprise party. The art style is bright and colorful and does a good job showing the movement of the story.
