Certainly a unique quilting project book. There are projects that would complement the current mid-century-modern trend, especially if they are done in classic 1950s colors. Definitly not a book for a quick weekend quilt construction experience. Some of the quilts have pages of cutting instructions, particularly the quilt named "Scattered" which had straightforward, simple cutting details but would be quite time-consuming. Another (Aperture) had a short list of cutting instructions, but the cutting and sewing required precision, patience and a clear head. "Cultured" was inspired by the circles that grow on a petri dish--in 45 years of quilt immersion I've never encountered a bacteria-inspired quilt. It would certainly start conversations and friendships at any university's Honors College dorm or an advanced high school science skills summer institute. Not sure how timeless these designs will prove to be, but then, aren't all quilts a product of their decade? This may be an inspiration book for an intermediate-advanced skills quilter. Methodical beginners may also be successful with the small projects.… (altro)
