Rediscovering the Sacred in an Everyday World” is an excellent book.
Each chapter focuses on a different “thing” (such as dust, rainbows, the sun, honey, livestock, bread, even viruses) and surveys how they connect in making God and His ways known to us using the Scriptures and everyday life
I gleaned so much from this book and could see if being used as a resource to consult on a specific “thing” while studying the Bible.
Some notable highlights:
“It is curious: an immaterial and entirely spiritual God created a thoroughly material and physical world. Perhaps it should surprise us more than it does.”
“The more of creation we discover—tropical fish, triceratops, Iguazu Falls, wallabies, coffee—the more our amazement of God’s wisdom increases.”
“Things exist not for their own sakes but to draw us back to God.”
“What causes a bunch of particles to come together into a human being is not any property inherent in the bunch of particles; it is nothing less than the breath of the Lord, which animates the dust and causes it to become a living soul. Without the breath of God, we are nothing more than a pile on the floor. With it, we are bearers of the divine image.”… (altro)
