When this book was published in 1986, it provided welcome relief from patterns written for worsted and aran weight yarns. As the title suggests, the patterns are based on traditional designs from the British isles. Most of them are still appealing, and it is now much easier to find suitable yarns. One problem is that the sizes are small - even the men's patterns tend to go no larger than 42" - so pattern modifications might be required for today's plus size population.

There are some very pretty patterns in here, but realistically I probably wouldn't have the time or inclination to make them. (Also, I have a few other sweater patterns languishing on the shelf...) The Greta wrist warmers are probably the one thing I would actually decide to make and follow through with, although I did like the Doris shell top and the Clara bow-panel top as well. Worth flipping through if the title catches your eye.

I no longer have the time to pursue this hobby but have been lucky enough to have children and grandchildren who have readily learned from me and are all now keen knitters, so what a joy to find this treasure to pass on to them.… (altro)

Really nice book, have made 1 sweater, working on the 2nd unfortunately there seems to be a mistake in the pattern I am now working on. The math does not compute correctly. Otherwise the book is beautiful!
