Kimbro West

there are so So many things just not good about this one but also so many good things? we'll just have to go with a good old fashioned pros/cons list:

pros:
- the main character's name is ebenezer wrath. badass.
- the author bothered to create and flesh out at least two species of vampires. i love seeing multiple species vs just your good old fashioned nosforatu!
- interesting plot

cons:
- grammar? i don't know her...
- this guy just LOVES his elipses
- weird Weird WEIRD pacing. like, i know it's only supposed to be the first part of something but it needs to be uh slower? maybe?
- super unrealistic dialogue

overall this was a fantastic concept, but the execution could use some work.… (altro)

The cover doesn't have much to do with the actual main characters and setting, a contemporary tough red-head female police investigator who certainly doesn't walk barefoot flashing her behind in rags, and an older man.

She's called on the site of a bank robbery, but things started going weird even before she set foot there.

Well, it feels likes she should have been the protagonist but her show is taken over from the start by someone else who happened to be on the scene and dives wholeheartedly into the matter with a cheerful disregard for regulations or any secrecy*, and pretty much all the answers or means to get them in his hands.

*This is apparently a setting where the existence of vampires is largely not known, but this one sure isn't shy about using his abilities if not just right under the noses of surviving witnesses, at least in situations where he'd give ample grounds for suspicion.… (altro)

Ethan has dreams that are a bit disturbing. His twin brother, Isaac, has been missing for years and he misses him. His father had left him a strange map with places that do not exist.

As a punishment, Ethan is sent to spend time with Wegnel, an alchemist. While at Wegnel’s, Ethan travels to a different world, the world with the names on the map. Searching for his brother seems closer than ever. With the help of his best friend, Auren, and 2 other friends, Ethan and gang travel into the strange new world, where they are not met with welcoming arms. While Ethan and friends are to learn alchemy, the others are learning sword dueling and other similar skills to help them in battle.

The “Curse of Silence” is the forbiddance of speaking about the oroborus, but the curse is lifted. In his travels, Ethan learns a little about his brother, but a lot more about the people in this new world, and the battle that threatens them.

Lots of characters to keep you interested, and a good story flow. Great young adult read, and fun for adults as well.… (altro)
