The ending (who the killer is & why they're doing it) didn't really make sense. It seemed like it was a plot twist just for the sake of a twist with no real logic or reason behind it. That said, I did enjoy it in an eyerolling, guilty pleasure way. There are "jokes" that weren't even funny in 1994 and one character is overweight and you are constantly reminded of this in the most fat-phobic way possible. I struggled to rate this, but decided that I would give it 3 stars because while it's dated and sometimes offensive it did have entertaining kills and there is one final plot twist after the killer is revealed that made it all worth it.… (altro)

I liked the really offensive fat girl character. And the cheerleader who listens to Motorhead.

Afterschool detention is a real bummer, especially if it's going to be with Mr. Crowley. His temper is legendary, but he wouldn't really hurt anyone, would he? Harrison High is a magnet school for gifted kids, but the six students who more or less reluctantly enter the detention classroom after the last bell fit all of the Breakfast Club stereotypes. There's the Queen Bee, the jock, the nerd, the Beta Bee, the burnout and the fat girl. Jill was the only really likable character in the bunch, but the author is really oppresive with the fat-shaming and making her entire personality revolve around the next meal. It was...disappointing, and yet so over-the-top it almost became funny how terrible she was treated.

Their detention punishment is scrubbing the grafitti off of the walls and desks of the classroom. Mr. Crowley even makes them stay late, threatening them with more punishment if they don't keep going. He leaves them alone. It gets dark. Things get murder-y.

If it wasn't for Jill, this book would have gotten a much better rating. I liked the tension, the catty behavior between the high-achieving teens was fun, and the deaths were well-staged. Weiner just had to do Jill that way.

Would have been great, but ther's too much happening in too little space/words. The kids found it hard to follow the story, it jumped too fast.
