Primary Education
MacNolia Cox was a little girl with an amazing skill for spelling. She past two Spelling Bee's in the state and was one of the two first African Americans to nationals in the spelling bee.
This book is great for students to learn spelling throughout the book but to also apply that sometimes things aren't fair, and that we need to take it with humility the way that MacNolia did.

This is a book is a modern perspective about what standing in the Need of Prayer looks like for African Americans. Each page is filled with a "need of prayer" that African Americans were begging for. This book captures Black History in a very appropriate way. I think this book would be great for a history lesson in 3-4th grade. I think there is a lot of heavy understanding, but I do also think this could be an easy read for primary students, just depends if you have the historical information in the classroom.… (altro)

This book talks about Aretha's childhood-adult life, and celebrating her accomplishments. This book was split into many different sections describing different accomplishments in her life, using single words to describe her milestones. I think this book is great for 3-4th graders. It is a really easy and interesting read, but the information is a lot more to gras than a primary elementary student could understand. This is a wonderful picture book.

From The Horn: "This is a moving walk through African American history, via Weatherford’s expansion of the lyrics of a well-known Negro spiritual and Morrison’s powerful, imagistic art."
