Casey investigates gambling companies and an MP who is cheating on his expenses, and meets a former MP, now homeless, whose life she was partially responsible for ruining with a story about a conflict of interest. The writing was good and it opened with a really gripping scene set at Ascot, but I found the explanations of what the different companies were doing with the information they were obtaining by various (including nefarious) methods repetitive. I also found it complicated, which is perhaps why the author put the explanations in regularly. The parts where Casey reflected on the effects of her stories on both the person she exposes, but also innocent people who form part of the collateral damage, were interesting, and I liked Esther.… (altro)

I found this complicated. There was an extremely high death count, with the baddie killing relatives of people he wanted to warn off (why didn't he just kill the targets themselves?) Casey kept having crises of confidence before once again escaping from gunmen, once by performing remarkable feats of underwater swimming. She didn't seem overly bothered by the way people who helped her then immediately died, and the ending seemed very underwhelming.

This is a good story starts of in a London newspaper called the Post
Casey is a good new raw investigative journalist, she gets a whiff of a story about rich men going out to kill innocent poor people. She wont let this rest she digs deeper uses all her skills and teams up with her colleague Miranda and a potential boyfriend called Ed who is suffering from PTSD. They fly out to Africa befriend the ex pats who are the creators of this Human safari, They drive to remote Refugee camps and take one shot to kill an innocent person.

These are very dangerous people, Ed and Casey witness them do this and escape from them in the middle of the Libyan desert, with the help of Miranda. They get back to London with the Diaries of one of the bad men , the Post publishes this story. The Baddies are in London and are trying to get Casey but she survives.

Good book bit far fetched in places.

The premise of this novel was a good one: surrogate mothers 'sourced' from refugee camps in Bangladesh for desperate English couples through their private doctor with no one asking too much about the surrogate's agency, motivations or safety. My main issue with novels featuring journalists rather than law enforcement officers is the way journalists report what is happening rather than try to put things right. That is addressed head-on in these novels, and Casey does manage to put the world right for at least some of the refugee women, albeit in a sort of superhuman, bounce-back-immediately-from-traumatic-injuries way. Casey and her colleagues, who work well and competently together, seem to regard investigative journalism as something of a passion/vocation/mission, which makes them (for me) hard to relate to, but you do find yourself rooting for them.… (altro)
