She calls it her memoir. But she is a minor character in the book. And in her life, it seems, before Guy died. The story is moving, and beautifully told, but the most important question never gets asked to the end - and after it: How can Guy love and still not be life-affirming? It's hard for me to picture that as being two different emotional levels.

This book is a little dated now, but still an excellent resource for those who are thinking about low-impact camping and hiking. Laura and Guy Waterman were among the first authors to understand the importance of leave no trace camping and they present the reason for these ideas in a straightforward, non-judgemental way in this book.
