Veronico|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1398025899s/18467644.jpg|26127214]. While I wish Veronico would talk more about the details of the ships during their WWII service, he does an adequate job. Naturally, he spends time talking about how the "rescued" ships were rescued, and how the sunken ships are as dive locations. Not being a diver, I can't really relate to that, but most of the pictures he included illustrate his points well. Not as good as a WWII history book, but something related in a unique way.

This book rewards repeated browsing

Following the typical Ginter format this monograph provides excellent coverage of an important and now overlooked aircraft. Please note there is very little space devoted to the technical history of the aircraft in regards to ASW/ASUW or fire control. The pages covering the pre-history and development are pretty good and much better than was the norm for NF when they were 30 page monographs. But, Mr. Veronico did a much deeper dive into squadron/unit histories than is the norm for single volumes within the NF series. Post war coverage also gets some pretty healthy coverage as well, from Hollywood to Borate bombers. I was a little disappointed by a lack of contemporary photos of the ERCO turret at the Naval Aviation Museum, but that's a small nit-pick on my part.
There are little surprises such as the paragraph covering the Soviet shoot-down of a Privateer and some coverage of the support units that backstopped the squadrons. Coverage of the RY3 and Chinese and French use is included, but will leave a few readers wanting for more. One surprising aspect was the amount of damage these aircraft caused arriving as late into theater as they did.

Like most Naval Fighters volumes, the reader is best served by having additional volumes covering the aircraft. In this case, I would recommend PB4Y-2 Privateer: The Operational History Of The U.S. Navy's WWII Patrol Bomber by Alan Carey.… (altro)
