I really enjoyed “Line of Succession.” Interestingly, while the story is supposed to be about “water wars,” it focuses very little on that. The crux of the book deals with an outsourced security company called Ulysses who, with the blessing and leadership of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, attempts a military coup against the US. However, they’re pinning much of the action against the US on a radical Islamic terrorist cell. Our hero, CIA Special Agent Blake Carver, must stop the coup from coming to fruition.

While there are some political aspects to the novel that can lean a bit to the Left (Ulysses’ semblance to Blackwater; the JCS being “Republican,” etc.), I don’t think it’s really making any statements one way or the other. Carver is not afraid to use “any means necessary” to get results; the intelligence community is not a bumbling entity; and I think the military (other than the evil leaders) tend to be portrayed in a positive light.

This is a fast paced novel that seems to have an insider’s touch ala Vince Flynn novels. At less than $4 for the Kindle version, you can’t go wrong!… (altro)
