We begin a series of three programs tonight celebrating our role in the annual Decatur Arts Festival. The prize-winning Atlanta author Jeffrey Small joins us to talk about his exciting new novel, The Jericho Deception, a thriller that bestselling author Steve Berry calls ”captivating with plausibility and imagination.” It centers on a scientist’s invention of the Logos machine, a device that can produce religious ecstasy but also madness. When there’s a murder, two graduate students are thrust into a dangerous CIA plot with Logos that could launch a modern Holy War. It’s a nail-biter written with a cool intelligence and authority. Writer of speculative fiction, including the genres science fiction, fantasy and historical fiction, Harry Turtledove may be best known for his works of alternate history. Turtledove is the classic story of local boy who made good. Born in Los Angeles, Harry grew up in Gardena and attended UCLA where he received a Ph.D in Byzantine History in 1977. Two years later he published his first two novels under a pseudonym. Harry’s latest novel, The War That Came Early : Coup d’Etat, continues his alternate history retelling of World War II and the events of the winter of 1941.

New York Times bestselling author Harry Turtledove discusses his new alternate-history book. The book is based on the premise that Reinhard Heydrich, the Man with the Iron Heart, escaped assassination in 1942 and led a German guerilla war after V-E Day. As the pages of the book turn, readers see events happening in Germany and the effects of a protracted war on the American home front. This event is open to the press and the public and free of charge, however space is extremely limited and reservations are required.
