Paul D. L. Turner, Emeritus Fellow of Linacre College, Oxford, read Classics and English at Cambridge University, and was formerly a University Lecturer in English at Oxford University. He contributed Victorian Poetry, Drama, and Miscellaneous Prose 1832-1890 to the Oxford History of English Literature, and his many other publications include translations of Daphnis and Chloe, Lucian's Satirical and Thomas More's Utopia.

Tennyson di Paul Turner
Is there room in the world anymore for a book like this? A book that provides an overview (for whom?) the life and labors of a literary artist; on that incorporates lightly the latest scholarship along with more standard critical fare, along with a few original comments of its own. A book that can be read by a modestly literate person, uninterested in (and, with luck, unaware of) the zeitgeist of lit crit. A book that gives a reason for a person who has not read a particular author to want to do so and that gives a person who has read that author something to consider.
