I will never be good enough at Japanese to make this work. But if I were a second or third year student--this would be it, the book for me. The songs are appropriately cheesy, the writing is informative, and it seems realistically empowering. As in--learn some of these, and you will rock the karaoke box! oh, and even if you end up with the book, but without the accompanying cassette (yes, as in MC aka Music Cassette Tape), you can find these songs on youtube now.
