Although this book was full of information (I'm sure a casual Mets fan would find a lot of interesting information about the '69 team), I found it to be poorly written. Most of the book was presented in short, dry sentences which made me feel as if I was reading an old time telegram. (e.g. Ron Swoboda lived off his appearance fees. STOP Donn Clendenon recieved a Dodge Challenger for being MVP. STOP. Little Al Weis was given a Volkswagon called "Mighty Mite". STOP... and it continues) The other problem I had with this book was that it tries to paint the '69 Mets as a one for all, all for one team, but it mainly comes off as a puff piece for Tom Seaver. While the second to last chapter does attempt to show some of Seaver's short comings the rest of the book plays as though it is a promotional piece for Mr. Seaver and not the '69 Mets as a whole. I know he deserves a lot of the credit for what happened in '69, but this book was way over the top. Some of the players get a paragraph or two in the last chapter explaining what happened to them after '69, (Tug McGraw a few more, even though he didn't pitch in the World Series and is more recognized for his work in '73) while Seaver gets 4 pages. This book would be a slightly interesting read for the fan who doesn't know much about the 1969 Mets, I have read better.… (altro)

Apocalypse Now is one of my favorite movies. If you're a fan of the movie I highly recommend this book. Steven Travers does an amazing job writing about not only this movie, but he also writes about the california film school influence of the 60's and 70's. I highly recomnend reading this book.

Oh, God, this book...

I will venture that its sloppy, sprawling style and obvious lack of editing is a clever metaphor for the film itself.

I couldn't finish it, to be honest. I'm sorry.

Steven Travers, you blew me away! I pick up this book and read aloud to anyone who listens. The backgrounds, the individual history of so many known people is astounding. So many discussions lately have started with me asking Did you know....? This is the type of book that would make History majors of many students!
