This is a book filled with remembrances . . . and a divergent selection of fifty-six top pop stars from England and America. At least one photograph accompanies each entry; most have several [all are black-and-white photographs]. Each listing also includes some biographical information and details related to the singer’s career.

Many are names that are sure to be familiar to readers. Included here: Elvis Presley, Craig Douglas, Vince Taylor, Cliff Richard, Rosemary Clooney, Paul Anka, Emile Ford, Ronnie Hilton, Shirley Bassey, Duane Eddy, the Everly Brothers, Anthony Newley, Jess Conrad, Jimmy Jones, Michael Holliday, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Rick Nelson, Gary Miller, Dean Martin, Tommy Sands, Doris Day, Chris Barber, Johnny Preston, The Shadows, Frankie Vaughan, Vince Eager, Joan Regan, Dickie Valentine, Tommy Steele, Perry Como, Ricky Valance, Marty Wilde, Frankie Avalon, Nat King Cole, Conway Twitty, Freddy Cannon, Peggy Lee, Garry Mills, John Barry, Pat Boone, Fabian, Lloyd Price, Neil Sedaka, Julie London, Billy Fury, Dennis Lotis, Connie Francis, Russ Conway, Jimmy Clanton, Joe Brown, Joni James, Adam Faith, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Junior, and Lonnie Donegan.

Each singer is “tagged” with a descriptor: Rosemary Clooney is a husky-voiced charmer while Frank Sinatra is sheer genius; Sammy Davis Junior is dynamic and devastating, and Elvis Presley is king of the kids. Julie London is the world’s sexiest singer while Peggy Lee is Miss Fabulous and Nat King Cole is the husky, dusky wonder. Overall, it’s an interesting and informative glimpse into the lives and careers of some of the best-known singers on either side of the Atlantic.

Recommended, especially for readers who enjoy listing to the music of these talented singers.
