Interesting concept, but the execution falls prey to the same vague lack of depth that commonly afflicts YA fiction. I did appreciate Nine's character growth and the sense of place infusing Freedom One and Mahawai, however.

Remake is a different kind of story than what I expected. Nine is born as part of a "batch" of twenty new humans born every month in Freedom One. All twenty are raised together until they are "Remade" on their seventeenth birthday. Before she is remade, Nine will need to choose her gender, name, and occupation among other things, but this is proving difficult for her. Her closest friend, Theron has no trouble choosing, however, and makes Nine feel safe in the knowledge that whatever she chooses, she and Theron will be together. On the way to be "Remade," a storm knocks their shuttle into the ocean, and Nine barely makes it to a nearby island where she is rescued by a family living completely off the grid. Thinking that everyone in the shuttle accident has been killed, Nine starts to learn about living life away from Freedom. Kai who is closest in age to Nine, makes life difficult for her at first but after awhile, they begin to appreciate one another. When Nine's tracker begins to malfunction, she realizes she must go back to Freedom and face her past.
Overall, this book is fairly predictable. Some of the "lessons" that Nine learns seem a bit preachy. Overall however, this book was a quick read with enough action and romance to keep the reader interested.

I'm ok with the idea of religion in books, but really this was very much an anti-LGBT story. It pretty much made it out that the world would be taken over by complete free choice(of what gender you are and who you love), which is an abomination, and that those who follow the bible and God's laws, will have to hide away from those who would kill them or make them into some sort of breeding stock.

I will start with this. Overall, I did enjoy the book.. It had an interesting premise and seemed to follow through decently.
However, I really felt like the dystopian side of the book was just a background and didn't truly need to exist for the same story to take place. Which is a shame because the world is very interesting. I also felt like there was a clear bias from the author for "traditional" families which is fine but not at all what I expected based on the subject matter Remake. The bible verses were also a little strange, but I guess done in a way that it sort of made sense.
I will say the world building in the book was great, the storyline was interesting, and the main character was decent. (Although not really what I would call a strong character)
So the book was good but not really what I expected or hoped for. I don't know that I would really be too excited to continue the series. It will most be likely be a series I finish when I have nothing else to read at the time not one I rush to pick up right as it releases.
