Personally, didn't have a lot of time when I received it, but still enjoyed the book. Found it helpful to implement several of her suggestions; felt better when I found a few of my own previous responses to problem parents left me with the same ideas as she had... before I read this book. Think it would have really been nice to have had this book as required reading while still in college, and skipped the more stressful experience-building of trial & error though.

Overall, a good book. It's well-written, solid info with a liberal sprinkling of humor throughout, and was not in the least boring, dry, or unuseful. Even if your particular type of "problem parent" isn't specifically described here, she has laid a good framework from which you can identify, assess, and successfully deal with them in a quick, effective, and low-stress manner.

This book should be helpful for nearly every type of teacher (school, church, daycare, sports, etc.), but I feel it would be most helpful for new school teachers (especially student teachers)... so they'd be less likely to "learn by experience" and more likely from her examples.

(Received via LTER Prg.)

I won a copy through the Goodreads' Firstreads program!

Although I'm not a teacher, I have been in many situations with difficult parents. This book offers insight and suggestions for how to handle those irritating moments...when you just want to put the parent in a good time out!

This is a book about effective communication in high-emotion atmospheres. I would recommend this book to anyone in teaching, daycare, etc. to add to their repertoire of skills in dealing with the parents who just don't believe their children could be anything but perfect.… (altro)

If you aren't an educator, this book is worth reading for the succinct and accurate description of how parents have changed their views toward both school and teachers over the years (hint - if you haven't had a kid in school in a while, it's not the way it used to be) but if you are a teacher, she gives excellent advice on how to deal with the sorts of difficult parents a teacher might face as they work to educate their students. I really love how she approaches the subject matter with humor and gives specific language for a teacher to use in "fierce" conversations to get done what needs to happen for kids to learn and succeed. Worth a read for both experienced and new teachers.… (altro)

I received this book as an early review. It has 18 chapters describing a variety of parent-teacher conflicts. This book would be a great text for pre-service teachers, as it gives clear examples of parent communication techniques.
