Ron Tagliapietra

This is another underappreciated book. Ron Tagliapietra gives readers (junior high or high school) 21 short biographies of great adventurers from the last century, including Roald Amundson, Thor Heyerdahl, Edmund Hillary, and others less familiar but just as inspiring. The variety adds to the strength of the book: dogsleds across Antarctica, ballooning across oceans, the ultimate spelunking trip, into the Likouala Swamp, and so on. Tagliapietra expects that readers will be interesting in learning more about these men (and one woman), and includes a well chosen bibliography, with four to ten sources for each adventurer listed in the book. The biographies are not Christian biographies, but Tagliapietra draws the connection between the character the adventurer displayed and the character of a Christian who desires to accomplish great things for God.… (altro)
