This was BRILLIANT. Brilliant as in bright - the fires within this book burn hot and bright, burn brilliantly.

Things I loved:
- MORALLY GREY LIKE I'VE NEVER READ BEFORE, the absolute greyest of morally grey characters.
- BAD ASS GIRLS
- love love love most of the POV characters
- Interesting world and setting

Things I liked:
- BURNING
- I wanted to KNOWWW, I NEEDED TO KNOW EVERYTHING
- questions I had were answered and it was so satisfyinggggg
- Interesting cast, and small enough that made it easy to keep track of who's who and actually get to connect with everyone.
- different POV's but you don't have to wait long to go back and see whats happening to everyone.

Things I didn't love:
- about half way through I wasnt super sure where the plot was going and it felt a bit stuck but then, BAM! Action! So if you're stuck in the middle, just keep reading, it gets fucking awesome.

What a book!!! Omg. I can’t think of a single critique it was just absolutely a work of art. Complex characters layered in moral grey depth. A insanely well thought out magic system with easy to follow lore and history. A plot that twisted and turned and left me on the edge of my seat. Although it was over 500 pages it never once dragged or lulled. And despite the constant switching of character POVs and the multitudes of such each felt so distinct that I was never lost nor confused. A new favorite… (altro)

What a delightful conclusion to one of the most enjoyable duologies I've read in years. Plenty of action, soulful characters with many obstacles to overcome, beautiful world-building and something just a little more original than what I've been reading in the last year. I loved how the two stories can both intertwine, and stand alone. That takes a sort of talent not seen often. And I rarely say this, but I loved the ending, and thought it perfect.

Definitely give it a read! In fact, give anything Suri writes a read, because she is a behemoth of contemporary young-adult fiction!… (altro)

Oh, but this was a glorious read! My first book by Suri, whose words will keep my heart full for years to come, I have no doubt. One of the things I find hardest to do, as a writer, is balance giant concepts like good an evil with any measure of subtlety... and Suri just nails all those giant voids to the wall. Love/Hate, Good/Evil, Orient/Occident, Magic/Reality, Strength/Weakness. It's such a beautiful tightrope to walk through her prose, and I am left in awe of how well she sticks the landing. Character driven, this first book in the duology still manages to juggle world-building, action, and plot in a way that feels seamless to read. The amount of rabbit holes I went down in terms of research was a delight. Seriously. I'm learning all the things!

Okay. I've gushed enough. Probably my new favorite author. Don't be insane: read this immediately!
