This book was gifted to me a week ago. I had never heard of Bill Stokes, but a couple of the people involved in the book are familiar to me, and I was curious.

I spent an entertaining 3.5 hours listening to these wonderful stories. I can't remember the last time I sat laughing through an entire book. What incredibly funny stories. Exactly the right thing to brighten up a miserable, dark December day. Great choice of narrators, too, except for the female narrator.
She rushed through her lines as if to break a speed limit, and I couldn't turn my volume high enough to acoustically understand what she was narrating. Fortunately, her pieces were very few, and rather short. But maybe the effect was increased by the opposition of loud, deep male voices, and her - in comparison - feeble voice being squeezed in between? I listened to a sample of another book she recorded, and that sounded just fine. Still, the fact remains that she rushed through her narration, and that she wasn't loud enough.

I still gave five stars for the narration, because it deserves five stars.
I'll definitely check out more stories by the author, he has to be the 20th century Jerome K Jerome (which is high praise, coming from me, because JKJ is my favourite author ever).

P.S. I just found out that two more audio books are in the making once they've founded enough money to produce them. I hope that will happen sooner, rather than later.

This is a fun ode to Wisconsin from a man who obviously loves the state. On May 29, 1998, Wisconsin turned 150 years old. It’s great that the author points out that the state had a birthday while the mountains and rocks and streams were far older and didn’t really care about state lines and such. That gave me a chuckle.

This little piece goes on to point out various bits about Wisconsin – the good and the questionable. I’m putting Bucky the Badger mascot in the Questionable category even as I find him charming. The author includes a little about his heritage and time on a dairy farm, which was a nice touch.

I wasn’t aware that there had once been cave paintings in Wisconsin (and perhaps there still are). The ones mentioned in this tale were sadly ruined. The quaint rambling takes us into the water ways, up to the glacier, down to the Cheesehead sports, and then back out to the water ways again. It’s a fun stroll through Wisconsin even if you’ve never been.

I received a free copy of this book.

Narration: Jon Reeder was a great pick for this book. He sounded engaged and interested the entire time. He imbued the story with emotion (wonder, sadness, frustration, humor, etc.) as needed. In short, he was a pleasure to listen to.

This is the second book based on the author’s outdoor columns written for the Chicago Tribune gathers together fish tales, some funny, some painful. Anyone who has gone fishing will relate to his adventures. For those who have not, they will want to try fishing at least once.

At less than twenty pages, this fish tale in about an elusive muskellunge. For those unfamiliar with the “Muskie” fish, the biggest one recorded by the International Angling rules was nearly 70 pounds and six feet long. The author’s short story is about a record fish called Satchel that tormented anglers.
