Breve biografia
Nic Starr lives in Sydney, Australia, where she tries to squeeze as much into her busy life as possible. Balancing the demands of a corporate career with raising a family and writing can be challenging but she wouldn’t give it up for the world.

Always a reader, the lure of m/m romance was strong and she devoured hundreds of wonderful m/m romance books before eventually realising she had some stories of her own that needed to be told!

When not writing or reading, she loves to spend time with her family—an understanding husband and two beautiful daughters—and is often found indulging in her love of cooking and planning her dream home in the country. (Publishers site)

Sticky Fingers is the story of Jeff Wilder. Told in third person from Jeff’s pov.

This is a fast read, only about thirty pages. It’s also a light read and the tone of the story reminds me more of a YA plot even though it’s not. Maybe because the plot doesn’t have any angst even though it includes Jeff’s dissatisfaction with his current career. I consider this book more like a lead-in to following stories because there isn’t a definite HEA or HFN, just the possibility of where Jeff’s life might be going.

We don’t learn much about the characters’ personalities, except maybe for Danny the neighbor who seems to be friendly, helpful and artistic.

It felt like the story was telling me what was happening rather than experiencing it. There was more monologue than dialogue. I did however enjoy the cooking and the recipe the author included at the end of the story.

Sticky Fingers is an extremely quick, angst free read that reminds me of YA even though there is a small sex scene. The plot is a brief glossing over of people and a small event. I give this story 3 Stars.

Rustic Melody is the first book in the ‘Rustic’ series. It takes place in Australia and stars Adam Chambers and Joey Callaway. The story is told in third person from both Adam and Joey’s povs.

This is a pleasant story without much angst. The conflict comes from situations dealing with family members and decisions that need to be made. This is a coming together story, about two ordinary guys, how they fall in love, how Adam finds what he wants from his life, and Joey getting out of the town he’s stuck in.

The author did a good job of describing the scenery and life in Australia, I was able to easily visualize the events happening. I did feel that the monologue was told rather than shown and the writing tended to be passive so I wasn’t able to really feel connected to the characters as much as I wanted.

At some points, I was confused about how the characters were portrayed. When we first met Adam, the thoughts in his head conveyed that he was younger and didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life, that’s why he was traveling. But, when he meets Joey and starts to speak, he struck me as an older man that was very confident and forward. The disconnect had me wondering if this was the same person. Later in the story, he became more like a young man in his twenties, but that one particular meet scene and Adam’s persona didn’t work for me. Joey seemed very capable and confident at first, although frustrated and sad because he wasn’t able to make the pub work. By the end of the story I got the impression he was more like a damsel that needed rescuing by Adam to solve his problems and leave the town. Joey didn’t grow like Adam did, he actually seemed weaker, he accepted whatever happened to him. If Adam hadn’t have come along, Joey would’ve been stuck.

One thing that stood out for me was the medical condition of the grandmother. Spoiler cut for those who don’t want to read it. I’ve known three women who’ve had strokes. All had physical issues afterwards in varying degrees, and all of them had speech and short term memory problems. Some more severe than others. For Adam’s grandmother to talk and remember as if nothing had ever happened, is difficult for me to believe. The stroke scene totally threw me out of the story and I was less able to enjoy it because of how it supposedly affected the grandmother. Since I don’t know all stroke patients, I can’t say how much all people's short term memories are affected. But I can tell you, the three women I’ve known; all had lasting problems with their short-term memories.

The next part is personal preference and I know other readers will like it, but I would have preferred less sex in the story. I didn’t feel it was necessary to convey Adam and Joey’s growth as characters or their growing closeness. But, as I said, it’s personal preference.

In the end, I liked the interactions of Adam and Joey, the issues with their families, the description of Australia. But I didn’t like the telling and passive writing, the grandmother's problem or some of the characterization. It wasn’t as consistent as I usually expect from stories. I would still recommend this book because it’s a pleasant, no angst read. I give Rustic Melody, 3 Stars.

Sweet low angst story with an authentic feeling location (small town Australia).
The guys are perfect together and the women in their lifes are all strong independent characters.

If I had one complaint it would be that there were a few too many sex scenes, but that's just personal preference :)

Overall a lovely gentle story. Recommended.

Sweet second chance romance.

Hunter took a bit of getting used to, I found him entitled and somewhat obnoxious at the beginning.

Cute ex-friends to lovers with a sweet Christmas background.
