In 1530 Pizarro took 180 men and 27 horses to attack the Inca Kingdom. Pizarro led his people into the Andes where the Inca waited, surrounded by his soldiers and countries. The Spanish were hopelessly outnumbered. But Pizarro captured the Inca by a trick. He knew if he held the rulers, he could make all the Incas obey him.
Atahualpa saw the Spanish greed for gold. He offered to give Pizarro whole room filled with gold in return for his freedom. But Pizarro broke his promise. He put the Inca on trial and condemned him to death. There was no body to tell the people what to do and Spanish took over. They became the new rulers of Peru.

When he return to Lisbon in 1499, over half his men were dead, including his brother Paolo. But da Gama was a hero. He had found a sea route to India(See p 24).

At that time, voyage had a risk to death. He and his crew was so brave to find a new route.

Aztec parents were very strict. If their children were naughty, they held them over the fire of a hot peppers, to make their eyes sting. Children were trained to be brave(See p 35).
