Not too sure how I feel with this book. It doesn't follow the happy ending tale, and that makes me sorta upset but I understand it's importance in lessons and feeling that unresolved problem because it's out of your hands.

Henry and his dog, Pomegranate, lived at Mama's house on Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other weekend, but on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other weekend, they lived at Papa's house. Henry and Pomegranate love singing at Mama's house and dancing at Papa's house, but sometimes Pomegranate just wants to go home. One morning, when Henry woke up, Pomegranate was missing, so Henry, Mama, and Papa searched both houses for him and he was still nowhere to be found. When Mama and Papa went to check for Pomegranate at the pound and asked the neighbors if they've seen Pomegranate, they told Henry to stay home, but Henry couldn't stay home because he knew exactly where Pomegranate was, at their old house where Mama, Papa, Henry, and Pomegranate all lived together. When Henry got to their old house, Pomegranate was there with a little girl with yellow hair named Penny. After Henry pushes Penny on his old red swing, he notices new shiny wind chimes have taken the place of Mama's mobiles and tomatoes the same color as Papa's are now growing in Penny's garden. Henry tells Penny about his two new homes, but shortly after Penny's father calls Penny inside and it's time for Pomegranate and Henry to leave their old house behind. Pomegranate isn't ready to leave, but Henry shows Pomegranate the way home.

I really enjoyed this book because of the symbolism and meaning that this book holds, especially for younger students experiencing the same thing. I also LOVE this book's illustrations. This would be a great book to recommend to students that you know are struggling with the changes that have taken place because of their parent's divorce.

As a child of divorce, I wish I would have been exposed to more books about children going through the same thing as me. This book helps explain that divorce is sad but that the child is still loved and will always be loved by their parent. This book uses repetition to signify importance. It also uses words that signify time of day and week. This helps progress the story through time. Students can use this as a model for their writing if they have something to emphasize or if their story relies on the importance of time.… (altro)
