- Len Sperry's education as a therapist has followed a circuitous route. Originally he studied counseling and organizational psychology at Northwestern University, where he received his doctorate. Wanting more specialized training, he completed analytically oriented psychotherapy training at the Alfred Adler Institute, after which he headed to the West Coast for a postdoctoral internship in marital and family therapy. Sperry then practiced both psychotherapy and organizational consultation for several years before returning to compete medical school and residencies in psychiatry and preventive medicine. As you would expect for someone prepared in so many disciplines, Len is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Preventive Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, as well as Professor and Director of the doctoral program in counseling at Barry University in Miami, Florida. He is board certified in clinical psychology as well as in psychiatry and preventive medicine.
Sperry is author of more than forty books that reflect his interdisciplinary training and diverse interests in consultation, diagnosis, family therapy, brief therapy, leadership, spirituality, psychopharmacology, and health. [adapted from The Mummy at the Dining Room Table (2003)]
