Light on the Horizon surveys the output of German painter Peter Angermann (born 1945). Angermann’s unique, cartoonlike paintings are playful and absurdist, at times featuring bears or skeletons in everyday situations. He is also known for his skill as a plein air landscape painter.

Highly readable account of why there seems to be such a disconnect between modern, especially 'conceptual' art produced today, and modern audiences. I found myself agreeing with much of what Spalding was saying, as I've thought myself for many years that many of our so called 'big' artists today, who fill galleries and get huge exhibitions are producing things that are empty and communicate nothing, and that simply placing something in a gallery does not make it art. Shark in a tank of formaldehyde, anyone?… (altro)

I can't say I learned anything startling or new. Yes, the human view of the universe has changed with changing philosophical and religious beliefs and with science. Was refreshing to see that an art professional also sees museums of modern art as prey to hunksters.
