Stan Smith (6) (1929–2001)

This is actually a fairly thorough text book on the "how-to" of watercolour painting. He covers off all the basics: brushes, paper, paint etc then goes into the various techniques one might use ...wet into wet, dry brush, plus some specialist techniques like sgraffito. He then devotes about half the book to projects covering; the use of light, the natural world, still life, and people. All in all a good technical coverage of water colour painting. However, his style is not my favourite style...his is rather loose and impressionistic. I'm debating whether to keep it or donate to charity. I think that I have enough books of this nature ...and some more specialised...such as techniques for creating texture ......so charity wins in this case. But four stars from me.… (altro)
