Gr 4–7—New friendships and photography help Manuel cope with post-traumatic stress disorder and panic attacks
after witnessing gun violence at school. Evocative artwork uses stark color changes and panel bleeds to convey
emotion. Depicting resilience, vulnerability, and a blossoming queer romance, this is a stunning portrayal of selfdiscovery in a rural setting.

This is a historical romance told in graphic novel form. It was mildly diverting (I do love me a marriage of convenience trope!), but there wasn't much to it, and I found the art work pretty lame. I am not much of a GN reader (though I did enjoy GN adaptations of Animal Farm and Heart of Darkness) so YMMV.

3 stars
(My rating scale translation: Some redeeming qualities, but I wish I’d read something else)

The artwork complemented this story so well. It was delicate and lovely with thin linework. At times, I did think the heads were a little too long though.

This is an inclusive, Bridgerton-ish tale. But I’m sorry I just couldn’t care about Catherine. Baby girl was dull. I understand the conflict she had with Andrew no one wants to feel like option #2., but it also felt like she creating problems/self-sabotaging.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed Gemma's, Andrew’s sister, struggles with grief, introversion, and social anxiety.… (altro)

Perfectly paced and wholesome! Manuel’s dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event, triggering PTSD. He finds his anchor in photography, his friends, farming, and what seems to be the beginnings of a crush.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and loved the artwork. The way the author shows Manuel’s struggles were well-done. The tidbits about photography and composition were nice as well.
