"This story has a HEA but for some that will not be enough. There are more triggers in this dark tale than stars in the sky."

This story is going to be too much for some readers.

Emme longs for "a soul-wrenching, destructive encounter with a stranger." She has done the kink scene and "safe" scenarios with limits and safeguards leave her cold.

As our story opens, she has made an arrangement with a friend-of-a-friend who she has never met. That person is going to fake-abduct her and fake-use her for their own gratification.

"Mr Scott" overhears Emme discussing her plan on the evening it is supposed to happen. He follows, observes, and usurps the fake stranger to take her for himself.

The story is told from alternating perspectives, which works well here. The reader is aware of Scott's intentions, while Emme is left to stew in her own fear (and arousal) as she becomes increasingly aware that she is not in fake captivity.

This is the first book in an ongoing series, though the story here is complete. We see a resolution to Emme's ordeal, and journey with her through its aftermath until she gets her HEA, though even that is dark and traumatic in nature.

And the kink/sex scenes? Maybe the hottest I've read from Cari Silverwood, and that's saying something.

Holy....

...Moley that was hot!

Was there a plot to this story?

I can't remember. I was too busy being envious of Viktoria that I kind of don't really remember anything else. LOL

Viktoria is a paranormal investigator who has been a rather solitary life on the road with her cat, Lump. Now she is not really sure what Lump is because whenever she has wanted something, he has gone out and retrieved it for her. Oftentimes, it has blood on it for whatever reason. As a young child, she witnessed her mother's death. Since then, she had been able to see ghosts. When a job lands in her lap, Viktoria takes it and learns that soon-to-be brides are being targeted and killed. No one seems to know why either. So, Viktoria sets out to find something that would help her she comes across a bookstore called Harrows. Meeting the bookstore's owner, seeing things there, and also coming across a book no human being should see. Viktoria finds herself getting involved with the bookstore's owner and the two that managed to be stitched to him - an incubus and a Kraken. Although she has sworn off sex because she has nearly killed her lovers, Viktoria cannot help herself but harm her lovers. With a Bride Killer on the loose and Viktoria in his radar, she and Harrow have to find a way to stop him.

This is the first book by the author that I actually enjoyed that had the smut as front and center of the storyline. Of course, we do have a plot somewhere in there but I did not care. I was here for the smut and the monster romance that I have come to enjoy since my first taste of these romances. And reverse harem? GIMME! GIMME! GIMME!

I loved this book. I loved the world-building, the characters were amazing, especially Meg, Ach, and Beez, the mythology attached to many of the characters, and the idea that a body could be inhabited by anything like an angel, demon, or any other creature. This is actually the first that I have seen something like this so I am actually invested in the next book that is to come to this series.

By the way, Meg needs her own novel. I would love to see more of her. I know she was just a secondary character but I loved her. I felt sorry for her and I would love to see her have her own happily ever after.

Discombobulated

I didn't find it funny.
The flow is off amongst other problems.
I understand what the author's point was in writing this, but I KNOW she could have done a much better job.

What had the potential to get a Valid point across to millions of readers and still be a fun read, lost it's way.
