Frank Sidgwick

This is another collection of ballads, largely based on Percy's Reliques of Ancient Minstrelsy, which an introduction discussion the influence of that publication, especially on the Romantic movement in English literature. Besides the actual ballads, it includes a number of Renaissance lyrics, including "Ye Meaner Beauties of the Night" which E.R. Eddison included in The Worm Ouroboros (I think as by Lord Gro to Queen Prezmyra) and Wavell (I think) --some editor, anyway -- described as being quoted by a modern English poet to a pair of London streetwalkers who tried to pick him up. I like this book because it has many good ballads in it and is a nice small size for carrying to SCA events etc.… (altro)
