Brooke Shields was born on May 31, 1965 in New York City. She received a bachelor's degree in French literature from Princeton University in 1987. She is an actress and model; she appeared in several movies including Pretty Baby, The Blue Lagoon, and Endless Love. Shields also starred in the mostra altro television shows Suddenly Susan and Lipstick Jungle, and has appeared in several Broadway productions including Grease, Cabaret, and Chicago. Shields has written several books about her life including On Your Own, Down Came the Rain, and There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me. I don't know what I expected from this book but it was quite good. I could relate to some of her feelings. I had them a bit with my 2nd child. I applaud her for writing this book and being so open and honest about things. I was suprised at how much I liked her. She doesn't come across as a woman that has been priveleged all her life.
This was a very poignant telling of the struggles of post-partum depression suffered by Shields during the birth of her daughter. It also highlights the struggles of bringing the realities of PPD to the mainstream and helping it become an accepted and REAL problem for many women. Very truthful and brutally honest story of the struggles of Ms. Shields and the realities of post-partum depression in its' many forms.
So sad. This book is slightly depressing. Towards the end of the book I was hoping it was all cathartic for the author, but she says it wasn't and neither was writing the letter to her mother, (included at the end of the book).
Regardless of how manipulative, emotionally & verbally abusive the mother was towards Brooke, she still managed to turn out pretty balanced.
And according to the book, the author has a grounded, attentive and present husband, a first born daughter whom appears to be quite a spit fire and independent and the younger daughter a very loving, sensitive and insightful sweetheart.
I'd say Brooke's life is pretty blessed. Hopefully she can find closure with her now deceased mom.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this book due to the heavy heart factor.… (altro)
