William Chapman Sharpe

New York Nocturne is more a cultural history than a work of criticism. Sharpe flits from one literary, art historical, or otherwise cultural reference to another (in a single short paragraph, he manages references to Weegee, Ellison, Milton, and Conrad), so that we have an obvious display of erudition but not a compelling argument.
